The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 26% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Thirty-six percent (36%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -10 (see trends).
The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update). Updates are also available on Twitter and Facebook
Overall, 49% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president's performance. Fifty percent (50%) disapprove.
Daily updates are based upon nightly telephone interviews and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. As a result, two-thirds of the interviews for todays update were conducted before news was released about the death of Osama bin Laden. Thursday will be the first update based entirely upon interviews conducted after that event. Results from the single night of data collected on Monday shows a modest improvement in the presidents Approval Index rating. However, there was no improvement in the presidents overall approval rating. Caution should always be used when interpreting a single night sample from a tracking poll.
The presidents job approval ratings have been remarkably stable over the past year-and-a-half when viewed on a month-by-month basis.
During the month of April, the number of voters unaffiliated with either major party grew for the fourth straight month.
Republicans continue to hold a modest advantage on the Generic Congressional Ballot.

Zero just happened to be Pres__ent when the deed was done.
It was the culmination of years of dedicated effort by teams of other people.
Then we will see.
Maybe, that’s because most of us now, question who this man really is, and most of us do not trust him. We certainly do not trust that what he wants America to become, will be good for us.
His action to take out OBL seems almost gratuitous, now that we know BHO has known for some time where OBL has been. It almost appears, that BHO performed this act to aggrandize himself both politically and individually. I’m glad OBL is gone, but what kind of mind and soul, would resort to the final kill, not for the benefit of the people and country, but for his own political gains, and then swagger as though, he himself, were the master of the kill?
Why is it any different than any other poll taking? It is not at all uncommon to look for the bounce the first date where it is included in the numbers instead of waiting until the full period reflects it....
Don’t forget how low these numbers are. Clinton would go crazy if he was approaching as low as 60% overall approval
Newsflash from Drudge: White House releases bin Laden death photo.
Good.
Newsweak will probably get the ball rolling with a 85% approval
OK maybe not all I own, but I betcha this is in the works as we speak...all lies btw, but am banking on it
Forget about Obama. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time when Osama bin Ladin fell right into his lap.
After the question becomes, "We now know where Osama bin Ladin is, Mr. President. Should we send in a SEAL Team to kill him, yes or no?", even a cockroach has a 50-50 chance of scurrying towards the sugar bowl that contains the correct anawer.
What about the President, whose intelligence policies were much criticized by Obama, that made the killing of Osama bin Ladin possible ....... George W. Bush?
Is he getting a "bounce"?
AMEN! Your comments are spot on. I hope that any bump fades fast. The celebrations in NY and Washington seem over the top to me. I remember how poed I was when I saw the overseas celebrations after 9/11, and I would hope that our younger generation would be above the fray. I’m glad he’s been ‘handled’ by our elite military, but the war is not over because of this and it is not necessary to celebrate yet.
He was down as low as 20% “strongly approve” a few days ago, so he seems to have gotten something out of the OBL killing.
I get the sense that speech he gave saying “I, I, I, Me, I”, taking all the credit that rightly belonged to Seal Team Six, the US Military, Gitmo interrogators, George W. Bush and thousands of anonymous intel analysts is not sitting well with most people.
I will sum this one up for the administration.
I felt pretty good Sunday night when I heard the news report that OBL had been killed. Then I got up Monday morning and had to get gas in my truck so I could go to work. $75.00 later I’m thinking the dems are a bunch of SOB’s
interesting results so far
This is being posted all over facebook.
Let’s be clear on this: OBAMA DID NOT KILL BIN LADEN.American Navy Seal’s did, who OBAMA just a few weeks ago was debating on whether or not to pay.OBAMA just happened to be in office when our Navy Seal Team found OsamaBL and took him out. Not a OBAMA victory, an AMERICAN victory! It was waterboarding that allowed intel for this to happen. Obama gives them funerals and miranda rights. REPOST IF YOU AGREE!!!
America is not stupid.
Yep, we’ll see about a bounce in the polls.
I am delighted that Obama made the decision to carry out this mission to take out Bin Laden. And I give him credit for making the right decision.
But, this one event doesn’t change my opinion of the rest of his job performance as president. I would still say I disapprove if asked by a pollster.
And memories of this will fade, and any bounce in the polls will start to erode.
These are the same vile people who sat on tv smirking like chimps after the Tucson memorial happily chirping “he's back” because of the bounce they all just knew he would get afterward. Never mind that a little girl had just died this was a great opportunity for Obama. Sick, just sick.
Rasmussen knows that too, so I have no idea why he is making this statement.
