WASHINGTON - Officials say CIA interrogators in secret overseas prisons developed the first strands of information that ultimately led to the killing of Osama bin Laden.
Current and former U.S. officials say that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, provided the nom de guerre of one of bin Laden's most trusted aides. The CIA got similar information from Mohammed's successor, Abu Faraj al-Libi. Both were subjected to harsh interrogation tactics inside CIA prisons in Poland and Romania.
The news is sure to reignite debate over whether the now-closed interrogation and detention program was successful. Former president George W. Bush authorized the CIA to use the harshest interrogation tactics in U.S. history. President Barack Obama closed the prison system

The Daily Kos is not going to like this news.
Thanks again, Grorge Bush.
We’ve seen how the muzzies interrogate people haven’t we.
The Pravda of the Peoples Commune of St Paul has no credibility.
Kept Guantanamo open, filled the skies with drones, torture @ secret prisons, SpecOps shots in the face....
I’M STARTING TO LIKE THIS GUY...!
GOIN’ GANGSTA, INDEEEEED...!!
“Both were subjected to harsh interrogation tactics inside CIA prisons in Poland and Romania.”
Frankly, I hope this is true. Those pieces of garbage deserve every bit of “harsh interrogation tatics” conceivable.
How far to go with interrogation consistent with our values, our religion and our laws is one of our most difficult decisions. I guess I am glad that Obama made the right one. Having a military son who could be in danger tends to harden my own decision making tendencies.
How did Obama fail? What went wrong????
In spite of all his outreach efforts to empower muslims, consolidate the Mid East, all his pro islam leanings and efforts ....this had to happen!

I really don’t think you need to concern yourself with your values. We are at war, like it or not and things are different in war and we are forced to do things that go against our values. War is not fun, it’s not fair......winning is the only answer to war.....at any cost. “At any cost” is a tough one, but if we didn’t feel this way, we may be speaking Japanese or German right now.
I find it interesting that when looking at the history of the world and recorded history, there has only been about seven years when there was no major war some place in the world. Humans are a war like breed. Sad to say this but it’s just the way it is. It all depends how much we are forced to win. The cost of winning is a heavy burden, the alternative is a lot worse though.
UBL is dead (along with virtually all of AQ original leadership sans Zawahiri) because GWB was President. Obama deserves credit for allowing this Operation to go forth (that killed UBL) but it was President GWB leadership that made all of this possible (along with the freedoms that are spreading throughout the Middle East) and it was Obama who was against these very same hard decisions that made all of this possible....
The media will spin this like they always do for political reasons....But those in the fight know what needs to be known.
No he didn't. Bush closed the Eastern European detention facilities years before Obama got elected.
THANK YOU PRESIDENT BUSH... FU pres**ent obama!
LLS
There is potential here to slice and dice Obama to ribbons in the campaign for being a hypocrite. Especially if he goes back to embracing is campus leftist wonk ideology on these issues.
