I could agree to that. The man is smart and the good Lord knows we can’t afford to waste brains and talent — but his character issues preclude the Presidency.

The Dems would be beside themselves with glee if we were foolish enough to nominate him.

Newt's an "idea" guy. Problem is, a lot of his ideas are bad: global warming, bi-partisanship, his commitment to marriage, etc.

Newt, then, is best employed as an "idea guy" by somebody who can sort thru and reject the bad stuff, but champion the good stuff. Making him a cabinet secretary actually requires that he run an organization -- which is beyond Newt. Instead, he's the quintessential "kitchen cabinet" guy that a President can ignore if he/she needs to.
