SANDY, Utah—Canyons School District released their findings Friday to police in their racism investigation at Alta High.

Sandy Police say there could be more criminal charges beyond what has been issued against three students so far.

"There's always a concern when you have allegations of hate and you always want to make sure, especially children and kids feel safe in their environments and the school’s a place where they should always feel safe," says Sandy Police Sgt. John Arnold.

Arnold says for a while police presence at the school was increased because tensions were running so high over the alleged racist activity. He says the school district has made it clear they will not tolerate racist acts.

"I don't know how else to say it, these things shouldn't be allowed in any school in America let alone here in Sandy Utah," says Canyons District Superintendant David Doty.

Already three students have been charged with unlawful acts at school. Two teens were charged for emailing a racist photo out to classmates. Another was charged for wearing a white KKK-like hood to a school pep rally.

Police say if they find offenses more serious than misdemeanors they will pass it on to the district attorney for possible felony charges.

The Canyons District spent the day interviewing for a new principal at Alta. Former principal Mont Widerberg retired soon after the racist allegations surfaced.

White-concentrated Utah...where 33 years ago the color of your skin determined if you could be a priest in the Mormon church or get married in the Mormon temple.

There a still golf courses around today that use skin color or religion as a criteria for membership. What’s your point? And I don’t believe the Catholic Church has ever has a Negro Pope. Are they racists, too?

I think, only think, that you are wrong about the Pope. I think there was a black Pope many years ago. Maybe someone can check on this.

While I’m not a racists I’m not sure what criminal law these kids broke. Sending a racists photo to classmates and wearing a white hood to a rally.

How are those criminal offenses? Maybe they violoate school policy and they should be expelled or suspended, but criminal charges?

Ever hear of the 1st Amendment?

Well the Catholic church is definitely anti-muslim as they have never had a muslim as a Pope yet alone not even one as a priest.

Why, did it expose too much?

Good Lord at this rate possession of "white" bed sheets will be a crime soon.

Where? (And, if so, what's your point? Are you claiming that's a "good" thing?)

One incident happened in March...
...at a "Spirit Bowl" in the school gym. The junior class was supposed to wear white. One junior came in a white hood that covered his face. Witnesses said he also went around giving a stiff-armed salute mimicking how the Nazis saluted Adolf Hitler. He did all of this right in front of fellow junior, Larz Cosby, who identifies himself as "mixed race." Cosby recalled, "So everyone is like, 'Oh Larz, look at him, What are you going to do? You know, they're looking at me like I'm going to do something. And I say, 'Really,' and I take his hood off. I grab it and throw it behind me. And I said, 'Come on dude." He said his first instinct was to throw a punch. "Honestly, that's what I wanted to do. But I didn't, because I thought what would my dad do, what would he say."

Sounds to me like this kid was deliberately trying to provoke a fight.

If its a private golf course, it's nobodys damn business what the membership criteria is.

Sure it is...

Every membership entity means that it's open to potential members...and potential members should know what why exclude them...if for no other reason than to never plan on joining.

I would say if you're a business and you supply products and services to such a golf course...and they have racist policies...then it literally IS your business...and such a business may desire to simply not sell its products or offer its services to such racists.

Who a company boycotts IS their business!

Likewise, a member may join a golf course and not realize it has racist policies. Such a criteria could (1) be offensive to such a member -- and they may wish to recant such a membership; (2) Even if they weren't personally offended, if they were someone with, say, political machinations who doesn't want their reputational name linked with such a course, they, too, have a right to know what the membership criteria is.

Otherwise you get into these occultic (Latin for "hidden") 30-odd degrees like the Masons...where they don't reveal to you what it takes to climb their ladder...and you get people in a sudden situation where they are making oaths that contain throat-slashings if you reveal certain things.

The kid with the hood should be kicked out of school but, you’re right. How is this a hate crime. This isn’t Canada. You may be a total moron, but you still have the right to dress up as a Nazi, a Ku Klux Klansman or Betty Boop. You can send an email depicting George Bush or Obama as a chimp. Heck, you can hang it from your house. You know, the more I think about it, the hippies and yippies of the 60’s were true patriots. They were the first Tea Partiers. As much as I disagree with their message and politics, they at least understood the concept of free speech. I may disagree with what you say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it. Abbie Hoffman must be turning over in his grave!

Colofornian is very worried about the motes in the eyes of others while being completely unaware of the beam in her own. I think there’s something in the Bible about that particular affliction.

Religious bigotry is an ugly thing.
