I suspicion that up in Alaska, men do the beard thing like men here in Maine - they start growing a beard with winter and hunting season/ice fishing/snow mobiling coming on. they shave in the spring as it would itchy hot in summer.
Now Todd, I would think, would be doubly wanting a beard in winter when he competes in gruling IronDog - what is it? 2,000+ miles of brutal cold, whizzling along on a 'snow machine.' You'd want some fur on y our face too.
But it's not needed in summer. And he isn't a man who does things, like beard/no beard for public perception. He's his own man...
