New U.S. claims for unemployment benefits surprisingly rose last week to their highest level since January in a sign an anticipated recovery in labor markets may take time, a government report showed on Thursday.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits jumped 25,000 to a seasonally adjusted 429,000, up from a slightly upwardly revised 404,000 the preceding week, the Labor Department said. Economists polled by Reuters were expecting claims to slip to 392,000 from the previously reported 403,000.

Jobless claims below 400,000 are associated with steady job growth.

The four week moving average, a better measure of underlying trends, climbed to 408,500 from 399,250 in the previous week. It was the highest for the four-week average since February.

The number of people still receiving benefits under regular state programs after an initial week of aid tumbled a more-than-expected 68,000 in the week ended April 16 to 3.64 million, the lowest level since September, 2008. Analysts anticipated a drop in continued claims to 3.68 million.

Again with the “unexpected”. By this time shouldn’t the unexpected be expected?

I can't help but get the feeling that we've been down this road before.

In what universe?

The weakening dollar and oil price rises pushing gas prices well over 4.00 per gallon will explode inflation and costs causing more unemployment.

Question is how long are the democrats going to be bound to that political corpse from Hawaii?

If I remember right, in the past that number was 125,000. Then 250,000. then 300,000. Then 350,000. I just read 375,000 within the past couple of weeks.

Now we're at 400,000.

Panasonic to cut 17,000 more jobs

Dow Jones Newswires

7:40 AM CDT, April 28, 2011

Panasonic Corp. said Thursday that although it has already cut about 17,600 jobs during the last fiscal year through the end of March, it plans to cut about 17,000 more during the next two years as part of efforts to streamline overlapping operations as it turns two majority-owned units into wholly owned subsidiaries.

Com’n folks, just look around you!!! All sorts of “regular” folks are hurting big time across the country. Black folk unemployment is at record levels, younger Blacks are at 50% unemployed. Gasoline, food prices, utilities, inflation are up and continue rising. The dollar continues to devalue causing more inflation and less value per dollar. It’s simple, POTUS Obama and the Democrat Party are on their way to destroying, first the the USA economy and then....the USA itself. Americans all, and especially American Blacks, wake up!!!

Oh, really... now it's 400K... I remember the same statement pertaining to 350,000 during Bush's administration. Nothing like lowering the bar for a failed TOTUS, eh?

How about a drink on the word ‘recovery’. Just about every economic ‘news’ article refers to ‘the recovery’ as if we are actually in one.

Unfortunately the black population seems to be directing their anger at local fast food joints than their guy in DC.
