Shell Oil Company has announced it must scrap efforts to drill for oil this summer in the Arctic Ocean off the northern coast of Alaska. The decision comes following a ruling by the EPAs Environmental Appeals Board to withhold critical air permits. The move has angered some in Congress and triggered a flurry of legislation aimed at stripping the EPA of its oil drilling oversight.
Shell has spent five years and nearly $4 billion dollars on plans to explore for oil in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas. The leases alone cost $2.2 billion. Shell Vice President Pete Slaiby says obtaining similar air permits for a drilling operation in the Gulf of Mexico would take about 45 days. Hes especially frustrated over the appeal boards suggestion that the Arctic drill would somehow be hazardous for the people who live in the area. We think the issues were really not major, Slaiby said, and clearly not impactful for the communities we work in.

And who is on this 4 member, EPA Environmental Appeals Board?
Glenn Beck just mentioned this on his TV program.
You gotta be pooping me. An ICE BREAKER heading 70 miles away might bring pollution levels close to (and therefore NOT EXCEEDING) air quality standard levels, perhaps depending on which way the wind was blowing that day?? And that was enough to sink a $4B project and perhaps put a death knell on the pipeline?
And Obama says there's nothing he can do about energy prices?
Ping.
Each day I recognize this country less and less.
“The leases alone cost $2.2 billion.”
There’s something wrong, when one agency of government sells you a lease, and another prevents you from using it.
My Crystal Ball says that it’s going to take force to turn this garbage around.
The EPA did not return repeated calls and e-mails. The Environmental Appeals Board has four members: Edward Reich, Charles Sheehan, Kathie Stein and Anna Wolgast. All are registered Democrats and Kathie Stein was an activist attorney for the Environmental Defense Fund. Members are appointed by the EPA administrator. Alaskas Republican senator thinks its time to make some changes.
Insanity......Erkel Mugabe Inc’s damage to this nation will take decades to fix.
Glad ya pinged Thackney ...always good info.
What they can’t ram through Congress they dictate by fiat.
You could get a scar form the man that wears a star!
The EPA us one of the most useless pieces of crap that the Government ever put in power. It has destroyed so much of progress in America and will continue unless disbanded.
The ships wheel is tied to this course until enough below deck slaves break free & "commandeer' 'our' 'ship!

Can’t Congress defund these idiots, or are they on Obama’s team, as well?
He can bring it on, I’m too old to run but I’m armed and ready.
