No evidence coffee ups risk of high blood pressure

(Reuters Health) - Despite earlier concerns, downing lots of coffee doesn't seem to increase the risk of high blood pressure, according to a new report -- but the evidence isn't conclusive.

High blood pressure has been linked to heart disease, stroke, and a shorter life expectancy, and some scientists have suggested that coffee might fuel the problem.

Some HAPPY news for those of us who love our Java. And I remember when scientists were warning about the harm caused by eating eggs because of too much cholesterol. OOPS! They were WRONG about that also.

“...— but the evidence isn’t conclusive.”

To the MSM, one is allowed to use inconclusive evidence is when they’re talking about global warm...er...climate change.

I have scrambled eggs and coffee every morning.

My blood pressure and cholesterol are perfect.

Black coffee and eggs scrambled in olive oil with some sea salt. MMM.

It’s not the coffee but all the sugar and super sweet creamers that people add to their coffee that probably add to the risk of high blood pressure.

I get horrible headaches if I go too long without coffee. At least I’m down to no more than five cups a day.

You know what gets my blood pressure up? These stupid studies that say one thing one day and the exact opposite the next and then they always end with, "but the findings are inconclusive". Plus the fact that I know my taxes are paying for these stupid studies.

Dammit! Now excuse me while I go get another cup of coffee so I can get my blood pressure back down.

A big mug of coffee and a bag of Oreos would be good about now.

I’ve recently turned into a coffee drinker but my idea of coffee is more like weak tea. Two spoons of grounds to 12 cups of water. I doubt the entire pot would do much damage.

What happened to adding chicory to coffee? Years ago it was quite common but lately I never see it. I liked the flavor.

I take them, too, but my cholesterol was okay before I started. I pretty much follow a "Paleo diet" without trying, and I exercise daily.

I have a brother who is almost obese, and he takes Lipitor. He refuses to exercise or eat right and believes in a pharmaceutical solution to everything. His cholesterol is still quite high, and he is a heart attack waiting to happen.

Yes...it was better when scientists had secure long-term funding and didn’t have to constantly display “progress” to compete for private funding or scraps of public funding along the way. Some very important studies are not even done because of the possibility of unwanted results. Add to that the popular press spinning intermediate results, and you have a mess that none dare call “Science”... :-(

170,000 people followed for 33 years and they’re still not sure? One thing’s for sure, though: if there is a risk, it’s a mighty damn small one!

If your grocery store sells Community Coffee they have a chicory blend. There is also a brad called CDM Coffee & Chicory.

I will never drink another cup of Community it has a nasty burnt, over roasted, taste. Sorry to all you Louisiana folks.

There are still a lot of coffees with chicory. If you live in the Deep South, brands like French Market, Luzianne, and Cafe du Monde are available at every grocery store.
