EDITORIAL: The peacenik hypocrites--Antiwar Democrats give a pass to Obama violence
The Washington Times ^ | April 23, 2011 | Editorial

American troops are dying in Afghanistan in record numbers, drone-launched mis-siles are killing more people in Pakistan, American aircraft are carrying out missions over Libya, terrorist detainees are facing military tribunals at Guantanamo Bay, and WikiLeaker Pfc. Bradley Manning is allegedly being tortured. Despite all this grist, the antiwar movement in 2011 is a shadow of its Bush-era self. The obvious explanation for this is that there is a Democrat in the White House, and according to a new study, this simple answer is largely correct.

“The Partisan Dynamics of Contention: Demobilization of the Antiwar Movement in the United States, 2007-2009,” by Michael T. Heaney of the University of Michigan and Fabio Rojas of Indiana University, appeared in the March 2011 edition of the journal Mobilization. The study was based on 5,398 surveys of demonstrators at antiwar protests over three years and numerous interviews with movement leaders. It’s one of the most comprehensive studies undertaken of the contemporary antiwar rabble.

The authors chronicle the collapse of the most visible and romanticized manifestation of antiwar sentiment: the public demonstration. Rallies of hundreds of thousands in 2007 dwindled to the hundreds by the end of 2009. The authors assert it is reasonable to conclude, “the threat to peace from the Obama administration, as perceived by the grassroots constituency of the antiwar movement, must have been very small.” Yet President Obama has a very different approach to war than Sen. Obama did. He effectively broke most of his pledges for peace. The dove turned hawk in mid-flight. “The antiwar movement should have been furious at Obama’s ‘betrayal’ and reinvigorated its protest activity,” the authors write. “Instead, attendance at antiwar rallies declined precipitously and financial resources available to the movement dissipated.”

Sure because if their “golden boy, fearless leader” does it, he can do no wrong, so it is OK by them.

Exactly. I believe many of these hypocrites are the ones protesting the treatment of the little traitor Manning.

It’s unclear what Barry is doing, bumbling around in Libya. There’s no clear strategy, yet the media has been silent about it.

Reagan simply had a missile shot into Quadaffi’s palace and called it a day, but then Reagan had a nuanced intelligence that’s lacking in the current sophomoric President.

Obama the Islamo-Marxist Chicago Gangster is worshiped by his cult. They are stuck with him because he is their best hope to fulfill their agenda of hate, lies and death. It is all so very wicked and the winds of spirit will blow away this vile stench of the Obama Nation of Desolation. Fasten your seat belts we are in the end times crunch.

Well said. Can you imagine the hysterics in the antiwar movement and enemedia if George Bush would have done what Obama did in Libya? They all would have been calling for his hanging in the public square.

Bush was called a warmonger, liar, opportunist, etc. but he went about it the right way, he conferred with Congress and got their approval. Not so Obama and we hear not a word out of these protesters and media about his arguably unconstitutional act.

The biggest hypocrites by far are not the antiwar movement but rather the anti-Republican/conservative movement and by that I mean the press.

THEY have led this fight against half of this country for the past 50 plus years.

The antiwar movement was and is a fringe movement. But they are hyped when Republicans are in charge and simply not covered when a fellow traveler is in office.

To that end, gasoline prices are skyrocketing, yet no reporter/network/newspaper blames Obama or his administration, yet three years ago we could not escape the constant Bush-bashing over essentially the same issue.

When the TSA starting groping children this year, well, this wasn't an overreaching executive violating our rights; yet when Bush proposed the Dept of Homeland Security and bringing the disparate intelligence agencies under one boss that was Orwellian and tyrannical.

Whose ox is being gored? A conservative’s? Yawn....

A liberals? STOP the presses!

Democrats don’t kill anyone...they just help them reach a new plane of reality. Democrat bombs are wrapped in love and warm feelings.

"...and financial resources available to the movement dissipated.”

THIS is the key point: an enormous amount of money was funneled into a coordinated partisan effort on many fronts to destroy conservatives by any means necessary. The so-called 'anti-war movement' lies exposed as a dis-information campaign, not the moral crusade the media would have us swallow.

Follow the money trail, and it will lead us straight to the treasonous poltroons who work 24/7 to bring down our country.

Got rope?

Unfortunately the same thing happens on our side, which is what gives the RINOs control of the Republican Party. During the 2008 campaign no Republican columnists attacked RomneyCare or McCain’s support of cap & trade. Those issues only became problems once a Democrat proposed them.

Hopefully things have changed and any RINOs who want the Republican presidential nomination will be put under the microscope.
