WASHINGTON (AP) -- A plane carrying first lady Michelle Obama this week came even closer to a big military cargo jet than previously reported, the National Transportation Safety Board said Friday.
The distance between the two planes closed to 2.94 miles before air traffic controllers at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington directed the first lady's plane to abort a landing, the board said in a statement.

The aircraft was about where the landing clearance would have been issued (”cleared to land, runway XX”), so this is much ado about nothing.
A C-17 lands, normal spacing for sequencing between jets and the C-17 takes longer than expected to clear the runway, so, easy, the jet is sent around.

People with no knowledge of aviation or flying should not be permitted to report on such things. But I guess that is asking too much, you know, expecting the blow-dried reporter to actually know something about what he is reporting.

To Michelle it is. The wookie princess did not get priority over a C-17 and is pissed off. That’s the story. So that people won’t laugh at her hindness like they should, they are making this a big deal and pretending she actually matters more than a C-17 load of just about anything, or even nothing.

If the story doesn’t go viral this time, they’ll reduce it to one mile. Good grief. I know very little about aviation; but, I can understand that a wave off and go around is no big deal.

I see that nobody is thinking about the Aircraft Commander. Shouldnt he have dropped the flaps and reduced the speed and gain the required spacing without having to execute a go around???
That and the S turns directed by the tower should have given him or her the spacing required.
No harm no foul. Get over it already. She’s in one piece probably eating Wagyu beef and lobster tonight.
