When the state House proposed a Congressional map that eliminated a St. Louis district, Democratic U.S. Reps. Russ Carnahan and Lacy Clay issued a rare joint statement, speaking together to decry the loss of representation for the city.

Most of the USA needs to be de-gerrymandered.

I’m not from MO, but it sounds to me like Missouri’s Carnahans are similar to MA’s Kennedys. Are they that much like political royalty out there?

From what I understand, St. Louis experienced deep population losses in the census, which is what is causing the loss of representation in Congress.

Did these guys address why so many people are moving out of St. Louis? Or are they just peeved that political power is slipping away?

I’ve heard that St. Louis has a lot of the same problems which other big cities have had, regarding population loss, business decline, poverty, bad schools, etc. etc.

Years ago, people talked about “white flight” out of our cities. But I’ve heard that in Detroit, the biggest group moving out of Detroit now is blacks. It’s not really a racial thing. Middle class blacks or other minorities don’t want to live in a hell hole of a city. And those that can are voting with their feet and leaving such places.

There is nothing wrong with gerrymandering if it kicks more liberals out of Congress.

St Louis City, like Detroit, is being steadily de-populated. Everyone who can is moving out to the surrounding burbs. As a result, it is reasonable to downscale representative power from the city.

Because the downtown is such a liberal stronghold that, along with downtown KC, swings state elections leftward, great screams of protest are to be expected over this change.

It’s fun to watch the corrupt eating a reality sandwich.

I wouldn't think there are very many whites left in Detroit. They mostly left years ago or have died off.

The only time you see whites in Detroit is at The Joe for a Red Wings game.

The ironic thing is, Russ is the classy Carnahan, or at least as close to classy as the Carnahans get.
