USDA Spends $5 Mil To Recruit Food-Stamp Recipients
Judicial Watch ^ | April 15, 2011 | Judicial Watch

The number of food-stamp recipients has skyrocketed in the last few years yet the Obama Administration keeps wasting millions of taxpayer dollars to recruit more participants in the name of eradicating “food insecure households.”

The latest publicly-financed campaign to boost the food-stamp rolls—officially known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP—was announced this month by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the agency that administers it. The USDA is dedicating $5 million this year to “improve access to and increase participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.”

The money will go to state and local governments as well as “private non-profit organizations” so they can develop projects that “simplify SNAP application and eligibility systems.” Officially, the USDA is referring to the multi million-dollar plan as “process improvement efforts” that can simplify the application process and raise the amount of beneficiaries from the current 44 million who already get the handouts.

Those who may oppose this sort of government expenditure amid a record $14 trillion deficit should first consider the words of Obama’s Agriculture Secretary, Tom Vilsack. He claims that increasing the number of food-stamp recipients actually helps the economy, strengthens communities and creates jobs. The USDA even cites some unknown “research” that shows every $5 in new food-stamp benefits actually generates as much as $9 in economic activity. The source of the research was not cited in the USDA press release announcing the $5 million investment to expand the program

The more the merrier.

Instead of dishing out 5 mil for this "program", why not buy a farm and give these people a job to grow their own food.

Oh wait, they don't want to work, silly me.

I guess I can see that since the food stamp cards are bartered for cash.

If that is where we are, we have one foot on a banana peel on the path to hell.

I remember years ago that the “free” lunch program for the summer was being promoted. It was “come one, come all!”, and they proudly announced that there was no age limit (even though this was an extension of the school lunch program) and nobody would have to tell his income. This was in a relatively wealthy county north of Houston.

We are doomed!

The welfare queens at the government funded airports spout the same crap, the government does a much better job of spending the money it forced you to turn over.

More than likely, the key here is the agent(s) to whom the money is going, who are alleged to be recruiting.

More payoffs to pals. Oh yeah, they’re “recruiting.” Chances are I can do the same kind of “recruiting” and I’ll only charge obama 2 mil.

Cloward and Piven, now subsidized, no longer needing a bisexual street hustler named Soetero to troll the ghetto on the Southside of Chicago for voters.

It’s now the self-destruction mode of the US Government to overload itself.

Sick.

That’s it !! Like the Texans that declared war against the Obama government, I surrender to the “One’s” superior “logic” and material resources ! Where do I sign up ? If I dye my skin darker can I get in on the Pigford bonanza as well ? How about a freebie “fuel efficient” new ride from Government Motors too ? How about a solar-powered bass boat to constructively recreate with all my new-found spare time, (formerly “wasted” in working ) ? Hell, I’d be willing to make the sacrifice to paper over a couple of counties in Iowa with dollar bills to support me ! >PS
