County chair removal bill gets hearing
Legislation would allow a state party committee to judge competency.

Legislation that would allow the forced removal of a countys incompetent political party chairman drew mixed reviews Monday in Austin at the House Elections Committee.
The measure by state Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer, D-San Antonio, would apply to either major party and drew support from both sides of the aisle, but it was left pending amid GOP concerns that it would nullify the will of voters who choose county chairs.
Martinez Fisher didnt mention embattled Bexar County Democratic Party Chairman Dan Ramos, but referred to Ramos woes in urging the committee to favorably recommend HB 2752 to the full House.
Ramos, halfway into a two-year term, refuses to step aside despite widespread calls for his resignation over insensitive remarks and departures from local and state party operating rules.
