Time to arm Libyan rebels: Here's how
Christian Science Monitor ^ | April 13, 2011 | Angel Rabasa

The insurrection in Libya against the 42-year dictatorship of Muammar Qaddafi has turned into a military stalemate. The battle lines have moved back and forth in Libya’s crescent west of Benghazi, the opposition’s de facto capital. Mr. Qaddafi has consolidated control of western Libya, and his forces are laying siege to the city of Misurata, the last remaining opposition stronghold in the west. A proposal for negotiations and a ceasefire by the African Union was rejected out of hand by the opposition leadership on the grounds that it did not provide for removal of Qaddafi, his sons, and his inner circle. With Qaddafi showing no signs of leaving, the options available to the United States and its partners have sharply narrowed.

To let Qaddafi restore his control of Libya would diminish US credibility...

This is in the 'Christian' Science Monitor? If America doesn't get quagmired in some new North African Vietnam, we'll lose credibility? Wait, America *has* some credibility? I'm confused.

I'll report back later when I find out whomever it is that the Islamic Science Monitor says that the Arab world should be arming against the Western nations sticking their noses into Libya's civil war.

Time to arm Al Qaeda: Here’s how

Libya is a lose-lose proposition and has been from the start. We either side with a brutal dictator or the muslime bruthahuud. It is like choosing between death by strangulation or poisoning. Either way you’re dead.

We have no stake in what happens in Libya so we need to stay the hell out of there. Let the europeans fight this one out without us propping them up, they are the ones who need Libya’s oil, not us.

Don’t worry, Angel, al Qaeda and the Iranian fanatics are already arming them. Where do you think they got all those nifty Toyota pickup trucks with rockets and machine guns mounted in the back?

The Christian Science Monitor has been, basically, just another left-wing rag for decades. Mary Baker Eddy would be shocked, shocked, at this war-mongering idiocy.

Somebody needs to tell the Christian Science Monitor that our credibility is already diminished.

Most of the people we fought in Iraq were from Saudi, the second most were from Western Libya. It’s a hotbed for muslim extremism. I agree with you; we need to stay the hell out of there and let them kill each other. Neither side is a friend to us and whoever wins will turn their attention back toward Israel and the west as soon as they finish killing each other. Why give them the weapons to kill us?

Just fly them in for a Crossroads of the West Gun Show.

According the Libs, they will be able to arm up and no one will ask them for as much as an ID.

Come to think of it, after they leave the Gun Show, they can go down to the local Polling Place and Vote for their favorite Democrat. No ID needed there either.

If they decide to stick around, they might as well run for President. No Birth Certificate required.

No, this is "Christian Science" Monitor. Christian Science and Christianity are different religions.

Christian Science consider evil to be an illusion and it shows.

Our only wars from now on should be wars of conquest. If we break it, we TAKE it. Otherwise we simply can’t afford to.

I’m all for it, but only if we arm the other side as well. (In VERY small quanties, and munitions that have a very short shelflife.) We want them to kill each other, not save munitions to use against us later.

Most of the people we fought in Iraq were from Saudi, the second most were from EASTERN Libya.

Darna, Eeastern Libya has more AQ per capita than Riyadh.

Eastern Libya (a.k.a. Cyrenaica) supported by U.S./NATO is AQ heartland.

The first Interpol Warrant for OBL was issued upon request of Daffy's Libyan Government in 1998, three years before 9/11.

Yep. You give these primitive savages weapons and they are just as likely to kill each other and Westerners as anyone else.

When two groups meet to ‘take a village’, they are just as likely to start shooting at each other as they are to actually accomplish any military goal.

They will use the guns to settle old debts and feuds, rape and rob, and setup roadblocks to extort money from passers by. Muslims do it every time.

These people are savages and no amount of bleeding heart Liberal wishful thinking is going to change that.

This morning the Muslim Brotherhood warned the United States that if the United States meddling in Libya continued they intend to cut off America’s supply of 7-11 and Motel 6 managers.

If this action does not yield sufficient results, cab drivers will be next, followed by Dell, AT&T, Dish, AOL, American Express, Master Card and Visa customer service reps.

Finally, if all else fails, they have threatened not to send us any more presidents either.

What a crock, same thing as saying we need to kill people to feel manly. Sometime, you need to admit you screwed up and walk away.

The longer the Muslims in Libya fight each other the better off we are. I hope they fight each other for the next 40 years.

Well, here’s the problem with the Middle East: We should have realized that you play for both sides, and make sure both sides of Libya fight each other above all else. With all the time fighting each other, how are they supposed to turn back to get us?
