The Stimulus Is Now Permanent
Free Republic ^ | 4/9/11 | Self (VANITY)

Posted on 04/09/2011 5:38:04 AM PDT by Haiku Guy

With the passage of the continued funding at FY2010 levels through the end of the year, the Congress has endorsed the spending of the Stimulus, and incorporated it into the baseline figure for the FY2012 budget.

That is why nobody wanted to produce a FY2011 budget. In 2011, they would have either had to explicitly incorporate the stimulus spending into the budget or pass a baseline budget with a one-year stimulus on top. By not passing a budget, the Congress is able to carry the entire amount of spending forward without having to pass a temporary stimulus package. Now that combined figure will become the basis of the 2012 budget, and we will have stimulus spending forever.

Only problem is, we can't afford it. Things that can't go on forever don't. The trainwreck is coming, and we just passed the last siding last night at 11:30 PM

Apologies for the vanity. I just couldn't believe we passed a permanent stimulus without anybody saying anything.

...we passed a permanent stimulus...

WE did not pass anything.

This was a first step on a long journey that will end very quickly if we do not keep up the Tea Party fight for good conservatives and smaller government.

We accomplished a budget cut that would not have taken place otherwise.

The big battle still comes over the 2012 budgeT, and the Ryan plan does eliminate the stimulus.

WooHoo!

we are, as of today, 38 billion closer to affording it!

If we can hang on for several decades more, at this rate we may show that we can actually balance a budget.

Ah, the liberal communist democrat and rino run DC parties at work against America and liberty and balanced budget and the fools of America would probably vote the same thieving and lying politicians in yet again next election.
Come Lord Jesus, the whole earth needs you as King to stop the evil people of the world from stealing and lying and murdering the poor peoples of the earth. Without you Lord Jesus, the world will become like as the days of Noah yet again.

Genesis 6:
...men which were of old, men of renown. 5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
the coming of the Son of man be. 28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. 32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. 36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

That’s what I understood except that there is some kind of framework, but the details have yet to be worked out.

Whatever was passed last night, I don’t think we are going to be happy with it. At this point, I’m ready to fire every member of Congress. Bunch of whiney crybabies and idiots. We should have had a budget months ago. Instead the whole lot of them fiddled and dickered and pontificated. I thought we made our message clear to the Republican majority which took over the House last November: We need a fiscally responsible budget and we needed it yesterday. Apparently, the message still hasn’t sunk in.

What people need to understand is that we are not passing this problem ob to future generations. WE are facing total collapse in the very near future. As long as politicians go around yammering about our children and grandchildren being burdened with the debt, people will not get it. Most Americans are irresponsible adolescents and can’t think beyond next weeks television or sports schedule.

“Did planned parenthood get their money?”

Why is this important? This was a budget fight to finish the 2011 fiscal year and not an idological one.

But yes, planned parenthood go their 2011 money and the troops got paid.

Most Americans are irresponsible adolescents and can’t think beyond next weeks television or sports schedule.

I remember in November 2008, when it was clear that McCain was going to lose and the disasterous Barack Obama was going to become President, I started really looking forward to the new James Bond movie that was coming out later in the month. Of course, the country was going to Hell, but that new James Bond looks pretty cool.

Well, turns out the movie sucked. So did the administration of Barack Obama, of course.

When things are going down the tubes, human nature looks for a reason to go on, even if it not completely rational.

Most people, particularly the Obama true believers, don’t even know what a problem our fiscal irresponsibility is and how it will impact them. In fact, I know a few true believers who will tell you there is no budget crisis. I guess I write off those folks and don’t think about them. But what really frosts me is that, despite all the rhetoric, our lawmakers don’t understand the crisis either. All those fancy speeches promising change, and all we are getting is the same old, same old. Meanwhile, the country is going to hell in a handbasket.

Whatever was passed last night,...

My take on it was basically they spent 2 weeks, day and night, relentlessly hammering out the path to take while continuing to kick the can down the road.

The president agreed to a one-week extension -- and $38 billion in cuts for the rest of the year. The poster is correct. The original $787 billion (or whatever the number was) stimulus amount is now part of the baseline budget (which was always the plan) and will be every year until someone has the guts to eliminate it.

Paul Ryan's plan comes closest so far.

I'm looking for the fight to escalate during the debt-ceiling issue. This was just a prelude of a lot of battles to come. If enough folks are tired of the Dims come next sets of congressional/senate elections, we may be able to clear the field some.
