The uncertainty is maddening as I, and my fellow federal workers, watch the stage show that is called Washington Politics gamble with our way of making a living.

Here's a tip, and it's one that holds true for everyone, public or private sector: you can only depend on God, yourself, and maybe your family, in that order.

Regardless of where you work or what profession you choose to practice, you should be actively working on attaining good health and financial stability, gaining more useful education, and broadening and deepening mutually beneficial relationships with others. Having a purpose in life and having some sort of faith in something beyond the here and now is a major plus, since having both gives reason to hold steady even when you realize that each of us is nothing more than a blip on the radar screen of a cold, dark, and quiet physical universe.
