UPDATE: GOP seeks 1-week extension... OBAMA SAYS NO...

Obama vows to veto short-term bill

The White House has vowed to veto the short-term spending bill House Republicans will vote on this afternoon, taking away the safety net that could have given both sides another week to avert an immediate government shutdown.

Without a short-term extension, the options would be narrowed to either a broad successful deal or a shutdown as of midnight Friday.

“If presented with this bill, the president will veto it,” the White House said in an official statement of policy.

The House bill would extend the shutdown deadline by another week, to April 15, while funding defense needs for the rest of this year so that troops’ paychecks would not be endangered by a shutdown.

Meanwhile, negotiations on a broader year-long bill appeared to be foundering.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday morning said it now “looks like it’s headed in that direction” when current funding runs out at midnight Friday.

Well then, the GOP has made every effort to keep the government open. The Senate and the White House have to eat this one.

So Barry is going to "shut down the government."

Sweet.

So, then it will be Obama’s fault for sure that the government shut down.

Tell me again how EVEN the MSM will manage to blame any shutdown on the GOP, again? If the GOP House passes the latest CR, and either the Democrat Senate doesn’t pass (doesn’t even VOTE on) it, or the Senate somehow passes it and Obama really vetoes it??

What’s really going on here is that Obama knows Reid won’t ever let the CR even come to a vote in the Senate, much less get passed, so, Obama figures he’s got a free shot at saying seemingly brave things about vetoes.

Yep. Not to worry though. Because Zero has a nice weekend planned in the tidewater area of Virginia.

I think it's common knowledge that the Democrats want a shutdown, because they think they can blame the Republicans.

I don't think that will work.

IMO, the Republicans should pray for a shutdown, because the public will blame the Democrats. A shutdown is something I desire very much.

...and that is what Obama objects to...he wants to use military pay as a bargaining tool to protect his pet projects. Politics at it's most cynical.

All of the staff and vehicles Barry uses to play should be locked up. No budget, no money to cover his expenses to play on the taxpayer's dime.

Make Obama own the government shut down.

Every golf game, social event, fund raiser, gourmet meal and trip should be examined against the reality of service men's families and 800,000 government employees going to bed hungry.

Don’t be silly. The MSM has prepared for this shutdown ahead of time with canned sob stories, ready to pounce and place blame on the pubs. It will be no different this time. Obama will be fully responsible for the shutdown, but the media spin will favor dems. Remember, we are facing a state run media.

Um. Okay. Do it. (It's a win-win for Republican's : Obama is either responsible for shutting down the federal government, or he shows how truly weak he is by buckling and confirming that he is indeed 'all talk, no do'.) Well played, Republicans. Well played.
