Paul Ryan Is Right About the Budget -- Americans Cannot Afford Another Decade of Massive Spending
Fox News ^ | April 5, 2011 | John R. Lott Jr.

The deficit is a spending problem. That's the simple truth. If federal government spending after President Clinton's last budget had simply grown fast enough to keep up with inflation and the growth in population, the 2012 budget would be running over a $70 billion surplus. Instead, federal expenditures more than doubled from $1.86 to $3.82 trillion in the ten years from 2001 to 2011, causing this year’s enormous $1.65 trillion deficit.

During President Obama's first three years in office the government's deficits are adding up to over $4.3 trillion. And there is no let up in sight. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that the President Obama's budget plans will add another $10.4 trillion in deficits over the next decade from 2012 to 2021.

Americans can't afford to ignore this problem. The pricetag for that expected addition to the federal debt over the next decade comes to over $134,000 for a family of four. That doubles the debt the CBO expects that families will already face by the end of this year. . . .

He is right, we can’t afford it but what he is proposing is too little. we have 120 Trillion in unfunded mandates, he has offered something that is far beyond anything anyone else has offered... but it’ll take more than that.

Rush just said: It’s either Ryan’s budget cuts or paying 80-88% taxes in the not too distant future.

There goes all of our futures if the budget cuts aren’t enacted!

Ryans cuts are not nearly enough, we need to cut 1.5 trillion out of the budget each year and then continue that trend. 500 billion a year will do very little as we continue to to add one trillion to the deficit each year.

People will say well you have to start somewhere but we don't have the luxury of waiting that long we need bold action and stop the expansion of government jobs before its too late.

The Republicans could have stopped Obamacare yet they intentionally dropped the ball what does that say in the face of having the 70% of the American people behind them?

Sorry folks but lets talk about what they will cut each year not this 10 year plan which is car salesman talk to make it look more impressive bunched up.

Under the Ryan plan the debt to GDP will continue to skyrocket, facts are facts we need bold action or this nation will spiral into crisis and all will be lost.

Every single western democracy in history...every single one...has evolved into a socialist welfare state. Every single one. It's what human nature demands. And every one becomes moribund, debt-ridden and slothful. And every one will decay into cronyism, fascism and the trash heap of history. Every single one, including this one.

Keep a Republic or allow democracy to destroy your society. It's just human nature wreaking it's natural havoc on your society.

I love how Fox News can do that and not mention Bush. Really great perspective.

Perhaps it might be due to the fact that in just over two years, the AnnointedIdiot has far surpassed what the Bush administration spent in 8 years.... =.=

Sure. “If Clinton’s last budget had simply grown..” But it didn’t. It was blown up by Bush, and then completely nuked by Obama. If you think the omission wasn’t intentional, then good luck to you.

We’re broke. Our government is out of control. It’s no longer serving the public interest.

Time for this fat hog to go on a diet.

I agree. Bush used the horror of 911 to go on a spending spree. $20 billion for airlines. $20 billion for other transportation. $20 billion for NYC. Shall we start with his half a trillion dollar prescription drug package? And how much did we squander on education and a whole RAFT of bennies for illegals? And how many hundred billion on DHS and govt reorganization that was really just a code word for govt growth.

We're about 10 feet from a thousand ft cliff and we're heading to it at warp 10. And nobody has the guts to apply the brakes.

Our kids futures are already shot and now we're working on shooting our own.

Just frickin charming!!

I'm 57 now.

I remember in high school all those many years ago, about 74 or so, that I had a civics teacher who warned us about exactly this situation.

We've set up this horribly stupid automated system for interest for the govt debt that turned it into a monster that today turned has turned into a half a trillion dollar a year debt.

We spend half a trillion dollars every year and we get nothing for it. That half a trillion dollars only buys us the luxury of going deeper in debt.

We're frickin crazy. Absolutely insane.

I wish I could find that teacher and thank him for the warning that was so far-seeing.

I remember growing up in the 80’s and people were warning that you couldn’t run the government this way.

But year in and year out, nothing they claimed happened. So everybody thought it was just a boogeyman...till now, when it’s happened.

A lot of libs and “moderates” still act like a government financial collapse could never happen - and that’s very troubling.

Bush or AnnointedIdiot....don’t matter...neither party wants to stop it...faster we, as a nation, hit default or bankruptcy, the better off we will all be, bet. =.=

I CANNOT agree to this!!

I think we need to SLAUGHTER THIS HOG! Let's start a new with a little piglet and let's be MUCH more frugal in what we feed this dang thing!!! Treat it like a cute little pot-belly pig, instead of the old feral, rooting and rutting HOG that this one became!!!

The welfare state is out of control.

Go to an inner city liquor store at 10:00 AM and see what I mean. The welfare moms and deadbeat dads are all lined up buying their 48 oz bottles of Colt 45 for the day.

This is the lifestyle the US taxpayer is supporting. Most decent people don't see this side of society.

Shut it down.
