HA! The republicans will be like a frog in a hail storm they will blink so fast...
We have two guys working for us that like the majority of Americans cant get their mind around the problem because of the size of the numbers involved. I made up this simple analogy, which actually succeeded in getting the point home. I wish some of our Republican politicians would have the brains to start explaining the problem in such a way that people can understand it.
(This simple analogy is based on the 2011 Budget being 3.456 trillion, and the 2011 shortfall being 1.294 trillion. These numbers fluctuate daily, but are always about the same ratio.)
You make $400 per week
You are spending $650 a week, or $150 more than you make every week.
Son number one wants to cut $4 per week in spending
Son number two wants to cut $8 per week in spending
Do you:
- Join son number one in condemning the draconian cuts son number two wants to make?
- Praise son number two for having the courage to begin attacking the problem.
- Kick both of them in the seat of pants while saying, you numbskulls, youre arguing about pennies when neither of you is anywhere near close to facing up to the real problem.
Get it now?
I think Mike is right. Besides, if the American people really wanted smaller government and less spending, we would already have it.
Personally, I think the best investment might be heavy drinking. ;-)
"Better listen to him, he's in Pre-Med."
Boner is certainly one of those.
Very good. Your example is very simplistic and exactly what is needed. Again, well done.
I thought he was pre-law.
What’s the difference?
“Better listen to him, he’s in Pre-Med.”
Excellent!
How would you do it? Just asking.
Which, for the sake of reference, is 125% of the "extreme cuts" posed by Rand Paul (~$400B).
A lot of shallow-thinking-FReeping going on.
$500 B annualized is caving?
Well, six months is already behind us. I guess $250B is better than $33B. But the following is not addressed:
Defund current implementation of Obamacare, $105B,
Defund EPA climate change regulations,
Defund Planned Parenthood,
Defund NPR.
Include these four riders in a 2011 budget that cuts $250B, send it to the Senate and vote on it, up or down. If it passes the Senate, let Obama veto it. If the budget fails, the Repubs hold a press conference and explain why the Gov’t is shutting down. First, the Dems failed in their responsibility to pass a 2011 budget last year. Second, the Dems’ only plan for this year was a cut of $6B, but the Gov’t borrows $4B per day just to keep the lights on. Third, the 2008 federal deficit was $455B. The federal deficit in 2009 and 2010 was $1,400B respectively. The 2011 deficit is on track for another $1,400B if spending continues at the current rate. What is extreme is the Dems’ out-of-control spending and we need to stop it or else the U.S. will go bankrupt.
You make $50K a year, and have payments of $70K per year. Your answer to increase your money flow is to hire, a butler, a maid, a chef and a gardner and charge them $4K/year in rent to cover your shortfall. Problem solved.
$150 more? It’s $250 more on your numbers. Math is our friend ;-)
Izzat you, Senator Blutarsky?
Shut it down-—
A parent who keeps threatening a mis-behaving kid & who never puts that punishment into action NEVER gets a kid who will behave.
Democrats in Congress are no different.
Not sure exactly what you are doing, but the ratio of 3,456,000,000,000 to $400 is 0.000000000115741. Multiply the supposed debt (1,294,000,000,000) times 0.000000000115741 and you get $140.76 which I rounded off to $150.
As the ratio of debt to spending is 37.4%, in the $400 example the debt could not be over $200.
And math is our friend.
