Can they grow me some new hair?

They will be able to grow you a new head before male pattern baldness is cured (and it's not for lack of money). Go figure.

Thanks for posting.

There is another story there today about growing retinas.

There has been really great success with umbilical cord stem cells. This is something that is thrown away when a baby is born.

There was a recent report that a young girl who had leukemia around the age of 3 or 4 was now declared cured of leukemia at age 7.

It is one thing to state a cancer patient is in remission with no signs of the cancer coming back.

It is another to cure a patient by applying a therapy to replace cancer cells...

The Leukemia cure for the little girl, in my mind, is a miracle. And since the umbilical cord is something that is not a moral or ethical issue, it makes this type of application of medicine something I can live with.

Now killing innocent babies for Embryonic Stem Cell Research is the work of Satan

Diabetes is more complicated than that. Just replacing the Pancreas might not work.

However, with Pancreatic Cancer, and other disorders of the Pancreas, this probably would be a life saver.

Some cases of Type I Diabetes is because of Autoimmune disorders -- the human body attacking the Beta cells of the Pancreas. A new pancreas might be suspect to the same Autoimmune disorder that caused the Type I Diabetes.

Some disorders of Type II Diabetes is that there is enough insulin produced by the Pancreas, but for some reason, the body is not able to use the Insulin to get glucose into cells of the body.

Some cells of the body do not require insulin (brain cells, liver cells), whereas other cells cannot get glucose into the cell without glucose.

This is a huge step forward for stem cell research. It will lead to advances in the treatment of so many diseases. In light of the stem cell controversy unravelling now in Minneapolis, I’m glad to see that you distinguished this as adult stem cell research.

Most of the breakthroughs have used adult stem cells, or as you say, from a baby’s umbilical cord.

Perhaps these were cord cells, and the reporter misunderstood.
