ATLANTA (AP) -- Hall of Famer and Atlanta Hawks televsion analyst Dominique Wilkins was attacked by a spectator after the team's victory Wednesday night over the Orlando Magic, the team said.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the spectator -- 36-year-old Rashan S. Michel, of Atlanta -- has worked as an NBA and college basketball referee.

Wilkins is also a vice president with the team. He had just finished working Atlanta's 85-82 victory Wednesday night from his customary spot on press row when the alleged incident occurred at Philips Arena.

The “Human Highlight Film.” Man, did ‘Nique have some great moves before Jordan came along.

after the team's victory Wednesday night

People attacking each other isn't unusual, it happens all the time.

But a Hawk's victory! Now that's unheard of. Definitly a man bites dog story.

They came along at about the same time, didn’t they?

I remember a game when the Celtics played the Hawks and it evolved into a Bird vs. Wilkins mano a mano. Seems like in the 4th quarter they traded one unbelievable shot or move after another. Pure greatness on both sides. IIRC Bird and the Celtics won that game.

The trading away of Wilkins was the beginning of the end of pro-basketball in Atlanta.

It’s hard to think of Atlanta being a pro-basketball town, but from the time the Hawks drafted Pete Maravich in 1970, until they traded away Wilkins in 1994 Atlanta very much was a basketball town.

In the ‘80s particularly, the hot ticket was the Hawks.

when the alleged incident occurred at Philips Arena.

Alleged? So, is the author saying that this may not have happened?

You can put Connie Hawkins into the fly high hall of fame.
He was probably the first real high flyer.

Didn't Paul Simon beat him at one-on-one?

It was from an SNL episode and they did a skit with Paul playing Connie, and Paul beat him like 14-0.

Saw Tree Rollins in an East Point grocery store in the late 1970's. Everyone knew who he was!

The current Hawks could ride in a parade down Peachtree and people would go “Who?”
