Fear of a Government Shutdown?
The American Thinker ^ | March 31, 2011 | Steve McCann

Posted on 03/31/2011 1:32:36 AM PDT by Scanian

Leading Democrats are hoping for a government shutdown over the budget, convinced they will be able to blame Republicans and score political points.

"If I was (sic) head of DNC, I would be quietly rooting for it," said Dean, speaking on a National Journal Insider's Conference panel Tuesday morning. "I know who's going to get blamed - we've been down this road before."

The Democrats and Liberals in general pride themselves on always being the smartest people in the room. They claim to always be a step ahead of those Neanderthal conservatives who are stuck in the past, and as for those really dumb people in fly-over country -- well there's just no hope for them. Yet these same self-proclaimed movers and shakers are always reverting to a 70 year old tattered and threadbare political playbook and assume whatever may have worked to their benefit in the past will work again.

Today the Democrats, Chuck Schumer and Howard Dean and their sycophants in the media among others, are out publicly cheerleading and plotting to force a government shutdown in the assumption that they will win in the court of public opinion as they perceive they did in 1995. But did they succeed in destroying the Republicans in 1995 and what were the circumstances then versus now?

Sixteen years in politics is a lifetime; for those Republicans with weak knees in the House and Senate, perhaps a primer of what the facts on the ground were in 1995 (the last government shutdown blamed on the Republicans) as compared to today is in order.

...convinced they will be able to blame Republicans and score political points.

The irony, of course, being that the only "political points" the Democrats can score are with the parasites who already comprise their base! For the life of me, I cannot figure out why Republicans would care about the government "shutting down" when most normal, working taxpayers ("Republicans") would scarcely notice if it did? It only makes me despise the cowardly "moderates" even more..

They run like scared bunny rabbits from the Democrat press and America pays the price.

The pubbies are preparing to fight the last war, it seems to me.

And that shows weak leadership and a lack of vision and imagination.

With Republicans like Kyle, McCain, Graham, and other up and coming Whigs you don’t even need Democrats. The Whig Wing of the party has got to go.

And where is the lsm? The dems had all last year to pass a budget while being in control of both Houses. And yet they were afraid to do that in front of their koolaid drinkers because it would have represented hard cuts that they were not willing to take the fall for.

There is a big difference between the government shutdown of 1996 and today. It can be measured in trillions of dollars of wasteful spending, rampant inflation because we are printing money, and overwhelming interest payments on a burdensome national debt.

We cannot keep on borrowing money, increasing taxes, and printing money to maintain the spending status quo for the Democrats. There is no money. Our economy is in a wreck, especially thanks to our president's destructive policies the past two years.

The Democrats cannot continue blaming Bush, blaming the Republicans, and blaming the Tea Party for 50 years of their own irresponsible fiscal policies well beyond tax and spend, but including borrowing and printing. Crazy and irresponsible! Good luck using the old, worn, and tattered Democrat playbook!

Oh, I'm sure the Lamestream media already has the stories ready to run...

"It won't be a Happy Easter" here in the Cratchett household this year. Daddy Cratchett is a Government employee who got laid off because of the mean, nasty Republicans who want poor, crippled little Timmy to eat dirt instead of chocolate bunnies."

"Tell us, little Timmy, how does it feel being hungry? ..."

Or they could run stories of military families without paychecks.

The libtards know they can count on their co-conspirators in the Brown Shirt Media to blame the conservatives like they did last time. Problem is at this time NO ONE believes the propaganda. I say we should go for it.

“The pubbies are preparing to fight the last war, it seems to me.”

Or, prepared to not fight the last war.

For those of you who are not readers of AT, this is one of two great articles on the subject today! As a regular reader, I find that there are many fewer, but more thoughtful responses to each than here on FR.

Many great insights are offered, and here is one offered by “Londonalan”, as seen by a non-American:

___________________________________________________

“A thought on the genius of your founding fathers: over here in the UK because of our parliamentary form of government we cannot have a shutdown and force fiscal discipline as one party will always be in control the House of Commons.

“The genius of your system is that you have two equal parts of your Congress and an Executive. If all three parts cannot agree then a shutdown initiated by one of the houses of Congress can force the rest to pay attention and get something done.

“So use it and get something done. It's a vital and terrific part of your government structure.”
