Al-Qaeda magazine’s latest issue covers Middle East ‘revolution’

Much to the dismay of anti-terrorism agents and peace-loving human beings, al-Qaeda of the Arabian Peninsula's controversial English-language magazine Inspire is still going strong.

The latest installment of the Yemen-based terrorist mag, described in the Los Angeles Times as "the Vanity Fair of jihadi publications," and designed, as the Wall Street Journal wrote, to appeal to radicalized "American Muslims who grew up on glossy magazines like Details and GQ," was published on Tuesday. The cover (seen at right) conceptualizes the deadly tsunami that recently ravaged Japan as a metaphor for the "unfolding revolution" that is sweeping the Middle East. Also teased on the cover is a package written by notorious al-Qaeda lieutenant Ayman Al-Zawahiri. .. but it circulates around the web in PDF form.

"It's got some more of the same [as previous issues]--the wheres and whens of attacking American targets, etc.," notes the conservative website Pajamas Media. "But interestingly, the issue lays out the case for why Al Qaeda supports the Arab revolutions, leveling the arguments of those who say that the group doesn't benefit from the general upheaval."

To that effect, influential al-Qaeda preacher Anwar al-Awlaki writes in one of the articles: "Our mujahideen brothers in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and the rest of the Muslim world will get a chance to breathe again after three decades of suffocation. ... For the scholars and activists of Egypt to be able to speak again freely, it would represent a great leap forward for the mujahideen."

..

"An overarching theme throughout this issue of Inspire, similar to previous issues of the magazine, is outreach," the organization writes on its website. "This time, the outreach is exemplified by an invitation to send one's questions to Anwar Al-Awlaki."

Inspire, which regularly includes tips on how to blow up Americans, debuted last July. ..

“Counterterrorism Suffers, al-Qaida Benefits from Yemen Turmoil”

by IPT News • Apr 6, 2011 at 3:26 pm

SNIPPET: “Counterterrorism operations in Yemen “have ground to a halt,” and al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) is the big beneficiary, the New York Times reports. Diplomats and counterterrorism officials say that AQAP (the organization linked to the Fort Hood massacre and the Underwear Bomber’s attempted suicide attack on a plane near Detroit) is now able “to operate more freely inside the country and to increase plotting for possible attacks against Europe and the United States,” according to the Times.

Even worse, the news comes as American intelligence officials have learned that AQAP officials have increased their planning discussions about another attack. The latest issue of AQAP’s Inspire Magazine also reinforces the organization’s consistent emphasis on carrying out attacks in the West. “…Killing 10 soldiers in America for example, is much more effective than killing 100 apostates in the Yemeni military,” the letters section tells an aspiring jihadist.”
