Florida Legislature proves once and for all that it is for sale
St Pete Times ^ | 3/26/2011 | Howard Troxler,

Posted on 03/27/2011 5:08:41 AM PDT by scottteng

These are harsh words for a Sunday morning, but the occasion screams out for them. I take them from the Bible; please forgive me.

The Florida Legislature proved this past week, once and for all, that it is the utter Whore of Babylon.

It is now legal in our state to pay off the Legislature directly. Who says so? The Legislature.

This is not a joke.

This is not satire.

This is Florida — where the laws of our democracy are now openly, officially For Sale.

On Thursday afternoon, with greedy lip-smacking speed, the Legislature voted to relegalize a bygone and corrupt institution, outlawed in this state for more than two decades, known as "leadership funds."

I do realize this is the hand wringing St. Pete Times but if Senator Fasano voted against it it can't be very good.

The St Pete Times is the farrrrr left wing rag in the south and a Dem party newsletter . Pravda is more balanced than this paper that was caught with two “reporters “ working with HAMAS to help spin lies for a local USF terrorist fundraiser !Anything peddled by Troxler is a redone Fax from the DNC

I would generally place politicians a notch or two below a whore. Most whores have enough honesty to admit that they do it for the money. Politicians on the other hand claim that they do it for your greater good.

That is why I mentioned Fasano voting against it.

No, a whore has been known to turn a John down if he seems shady.

Though I rarely agree with Troxler, he is spot on here. I'm not happy about it. Florida can do better than this. Rhonda Storms will be hearing from me today

Of course if the Florida legislature was "rat" controlled I feel Troxler would be writing about something completely different and his moral outrage would be comforted by the fact his fellow travelers are in power.

He's got selective outrage.

I read the entire article and while the author railed about money in gunny sacks, whores and buying of the votes, he didn't point out what the law said or does.

He charges that the legislature will now be able to sell votes because people will come with sacks full of money, he doesn't say how this is different from what it was.

People making campaign donations always want something.

Maybe I'm dense, but if there is something going on with this law, the author does a poor job of explaining it.

Party leadership positions decide which bills go before the legislation to get voted on.

I can see where this "could" be a conflict of interest when donations are made into "leadership funds" and then those people get to decide which bills move forward.

Politicians are people after all and can be motivated to justify just about any BS

Isn’t this donk unionista hysteria because FL just decided that public union members can decide whether or not to pay dues, have some control over which portion goes to political donations and unions must stand for recertification annually?

We hear a lot of similar breathless sh!t here in Wisconsin for the same reason. The favorite is “Wisconsin is not broke.” Ask the teacher’s union member if that means that they found the former donk Governor’s stash and they turn purple in fury.

Politics take money (mothers milk etc.) pols come to you hat in hand to raise money for their campaigns. You get to vote 2 ways with your cash and at the ballot box. If the leadership has a big stash of cash they can enforce members voting their way against the will of their constituents and make up the shortfall of contributions. Kind of like what happens when a local race gets targeted nationally. Most Floridians think that our state legislature needs to be accountable to us the people of the state not well heeled power brokers. I generally have no great love for any politician but it just make sense to keep them seeking their constituents cash backing not being beholden to any large cash cow.

I'm sure Troxler will write a screeching "donk unionista hysteria" rant on the subject of teacher tenure and unions dues no longer being deducted from members paychecks once the bill passes the Florida Senate, but this article is more of a call to keep the legislative transparent since it is GOP controlled.

Of course if it was Rat controlled, I think we would be hearing the sound of "crickets" from Troxler
