One more hot tip.
Buy a cop a cuppa, and talk to him/her about neighborhood crime rates.
They WILL NOT tell you that an area is a high crime rate area, so frame the question differently, bring a map, tell them you are considering moving to their berg and are looking for a good neighborhood to raise kids. Point to one of the areas you've prescreened and ask them to tell you about that neighborhood, follow up by asking where they, themselves would move.
You'll end up in the neighborhood with the best balance of lower costs and low crime rates good schools and services (and you'll have a bunch of police/fire neighbors)...
My next move is going to be rural, and we homeschool,
so thanks for the tip, I’m sure others can use it.
How do we know they are “good” schools? Were are the controlled studies that separate that which is learned outside of the classroom due to “afterschooling” and that which is really learned in the classroom?
Perhaps when we see good standardize achievement scores what is **really** being measured is the amount of “afterschooling”!
Honestly...Parents go to tremendous expense to buy higher end housing and suffer long commutes for so-called “good” schools. The schools may NOT be “good”. The parents in these communities could simply be good “afterschoolers”.
OK, I think I found the right forum for this. I am U.S. military in Bahrain. I just sent my wife and four children back to the U.S. I tried to call L’Auberge hotel in Lake Charles, LA to get a reservation for them because my wife is from that area and I want a safe place for them to stay. I kept getting black people in reservations and they could not comprehend my situation. They had no idea where or what Bahrain was (or the Middle East for that matter) and would not give me a reservation for more than two days. In addition, they would not let me talk with a manager. I am very frustrated and do not want to sound racist, but there really is a difference between races.
