other websites have already started calling this a “poll-tax”, because “poor people don’t have ID and cannot afford it”. sigh.

And, yes, the Dems are pulling their hair out. Their best argument is that “thousands” will be “disenfranchised” because they don’t have a picture I.D. Lame, really lame.

They should be called upon to provide a list of these people. When you need photo ID to buy tobacco or liquor, to get on a plane or Amtrak train, or to cash your welfare check, how many adult US citizens really don't have IDs?

They also need to make voting with a fake ID a felony, as well as using a fraudulent real ID.

Republicans can pass all the bills they want but La Raza and CAIR will just get them thrown out.

Oklahoma passed a similar bill in 2010. It is already being challenged and will probably do nothing to stop illegals.

would that make asking for ID for buying cigarettes, alcohol, and fire arms unconstitutional as well?

My opinion is that Speaker Joe Straus shouldn't take credit for this. The Hispanics are Republicans and the Repubs have the numbers to pass almost anything.

Speaker Joe Straus should be blamed if Repub initiated bills do not pass!

But I don't like Speaker Joe Straus.

Yes, it is awesome. Every little safeguard against fraud is in the voters’ and country’s interest. We can expect no less. Now, we need to make the absentee/mail voting system more fraud proof. That’s where the exposure really is.

If you’re conservative, stay where you are. We need the influence spread out over this country, not concentrated where it’s not needed.

The amendments pushed by the Dems were really desperate, and most of them were shot down appropriately. Anything from “provisional” voting with a verification of I.D. within 6 days, to allowing other types of “identification” and signing an affidavit under the penalty of a felony.

There is simply no excuse not to identify yourself as the person voting - NONE. Only the fraudsters have a problem with this. By the racket the Dems are making, I think we have a pretty good indication of how this is going to hurt their prospects. Very telling, and horrendous what’s probably been happening.

“..half the population of the US is going to move to TX.”

Unfortunately, half the population of Mexico already has. We are going to be Californiaized if we’re not careful.

I know, I’ve spent some time in Dallas and Houston. But when you spend your whole life in Philly and LA, Texas’ flaws seem microscopic in comparison.

“Great accomplishment for Texas. Too bad FLa. has so many Rinos similar legislation could never pass here.”

Florida already requires photo id to vote:

Florida
§101.043

The clerk or inspector shall require each elector, upon entering the polling place, to present a current and valid picture identification as provided in s. 97.0535(3)(a). If the picture identification does not contain the signature of the voter, an additional identification that provides the voter’s signature shall be required.

Texas is moving in the right direction. If the feds keep interfering I think Texas will demand independence. At least I hope so. We just can’t afford to prop up the likes of Michigan and California.

Passing the bill is only the first step. Then we have to enforce it.

If there are no Republicans present I guarantee that many democrat poll workers will not require ID.

We cannot get cocky and think we have won. The war goes on....forever.

Within a week, the “Courts” will rule it unconstitutional. GUARENTEED there will be an injunction staying it from taking effect.
