Nader: Obama should be impeached for 'war crimes' By Jordan Fabian - 03/20/11 03:47 PM ET
Former presidential candidate Ralph Nader says that President Obama should be impeached for committing war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The consumer advocate and former presidential candidate said in an interview that aired Friday that Obama has committed "war crimes" on the same level as President Bush.
"Why don't we say what's on the minds of many legal experts; that the Obama administration is committing war crimes and if Bush should have been impeached, Obama should be impeached," Nader said in an interview with the anti-war Democracy Now! organization.
Nader's comments came before the U.S. launched military strikes into Libya on Saturday but are among the toughest criticisms Obama has endured from the left.
The consumer advocate participated in an anti-war demonstration outside the White House this weekend, during which over 100 protesters were arrested.
The U.S. sought the passage of a U.N. Security Council resolution and commitments from European and Arab nations before taking action in Libya to thwart the country's leader, Col. Moammar Gadhafi, from killing civilians amidst a rebellion against his regime.
Nader's comments, however, were mainly directed at Obama's prosecution of the Afghanistan war. Some liberal activists have objected to Obama's decision to escalate the war and are unhappy with government's treatment of Bradley Manning, the Army private accused of leaking classified documents to the organization WikiLeaks.
"[Bush officials] were considered war criminals by many people. Now Barack Obama is committing the same crimes," Nader said. "In fact, worse ones in Afghanistan. Innocents are being slaughtered, we are creating more enemies, he is violating international law."
Obama appears to be facing growing resistance from the left over his administration's foreign policy.
Anti-war filmmaker Michael Moore sharply criticized the president's authorization of military strikes in Libya and a cadre of liberal House Democrats are questioning the constitutionality of the Libya operation.

All I am saying is let the far left “Own this”
Have we ever gone to war without an oval office message?
Ralph Nader is a old commie loon but at least he’s consistent. This kind of accusation from the left (who pays attention to Ralph Nader?) is the price Obama is willing to pay to appear ‘centrist’ and ‘tough’ on middle eastern dictators. He knows the left has no one else to go to (that matters) so he’ll risk some hostility from a few lefties to convince many Americans that he is is ‘a leader’. I don’t buy it for a second.
The larger contingent of the left will be very quite about Obama wars.
Just as they quickly went silent on Bradley Manning’s treatment.
You know getting Bush would be one giant organism for the leftist ‘BORG’ one of the nicer descriptions I use at times.
At least Ralph is consistent.
Exactly. "impeach" means to officially examine whether an office-holder should be expelled from office. And that is all it means. President Andrew Johnson was impeached, but by one vote, was NOT expelled from office, and served out his term.
You nailed it, and that's my fear about all of this, that Zero will look "centrist" to the mushy middle.
Say what you will about Nader, but he sticks to his guns and the man is consistent. Sure, he’s a commie and he’s nuts, but he has ‘integrity’ and you always know where he stands. Obama, on the other hand, not so much.
Good points....I do not agree with Nader on Afghan or Iraq Wars...he is at least consistent on his stands. You do not see that with the standard Democrat, and, even most GOP these days. There is too much “I support/do not support this because my political party says so”
This is completely stupid and people need to quit talking about it cause EVERYONE knows it’s not the people who give the orders that are the criminals, it is the troops that follow the orders that are guilty.
So when our troops kill the enemy ALL THE BLAME is theirs.
Im impressed! Some liberals still have a shred of integrity. Most of the rank-and-file libs that Ive spoken to in the last 48 hours insist that this is different than what Bush did.
Although I agree with them, which is a first, I dont think that either of them has integrity. I think that they want us to totally disarmament.
All conservatives stay the hell out of this. Let em go at it. Just need to add a little fuel to the fire once in a while. A dig here and a dig there and a whole lot of lies and it should just about do it.
The spokesman during the Pentagon briefing today said that he did not know what the French may be doing in targeting Kadafi. I fail to see how killing Kadafi was in the UN resolution and how this represents a consensus response to having a no-fly zone, if one of the partners can go cowboy.
It is too hypocritical for me.
