The Iran-Iraq war did a lot for the Iranians, because as you said, the Ayatoilet’s butt-boys fed themselves to the guns. After the Iranian airforce had effectively ceased to function (no spare parts), the Iraqi AAA was altered so that it could fire at ground level, making it into anti-personnel high-output automatic weaponry. And yet the Iraqis had to withdraw after eight years of struggle. So, there must have been some left. But truly it was a lost generation, and they didn’t live to spawn any subsequent generations. Kinda like Rock Hudson.
