Better to help a first world county than someplace like Haiti where "God only knows" what happened to the money donated.

Donate to the Japanese people and know who got the money and when, and how the money helped

Does anyone know which Swiss bank accounts got the majority of the money donated to Haiti?

I agree. Donating to help Japan, you can anticipate that there will be actual recovery - rebuilding and a return to normal life. Donating to Haiti, you have to accept that, at best, you’re simply helping a few people to survive in a country that is going to continue to be utterly miserable.

That's exactly why I would not donate to Haiti relief.... God knows where that money went and whose pockets were lined. It's my understanding that people are still living in camps there, so it obviously hasn't gone to rebuild.

I will be sending to Salvation Army on Friday. I donated money and clothing to them after Katrina and will do so this time as well. I feel much more comfortable not only with the SA, but I also feel that some random bureaucrat won't have his hand in the till as would happen in a country like Haiti.
