WASHINGTON Wholesale prices jumped last month by the most in nearly two years due to higher energy costs and the steepest rise in food prices in 36 years. Excluding those volatile categories, inflation was tame.
The Labor Department says the Producer Price Index rose a seasonally adjusted 1.6 percent in February, double the 0.8 percent rise in the previous month. Outside of food and energy costs, the core index ticked up 0.2 percent, less than Januarys 0.5 percent rise.
Food prices soared 3.9 percent last month, the biggest gain since November 1974. Most of that increase was due to a sharp rise in vegetable costs, which increased nearly 50 percent. That was the most in almost a year. Meat and dairy products also rose.

LOL!!!
that would be 1975. Looks like Obama really is trying to beat Carter as the worst President in history.
They gotta have cash to rebuild.........
One of the sneaky things they’ve been doing for some time now is keeping prices the same, or increasing by small increments, but making the package size smaller.
For instance, many boxes of breakfast cereal are now 13oz or less, where they used to be 16 or 24 ounce. Canned tuna fish is now in 5oz cans, rather than 6 ounce. And a number of brands of OJ is now being sold in 56oz cartons, rather than 64 ounce.
Sneaky... Or maybe it’s just Michelle trying to get us to cut down on our portions, so we’ll lose weight.

I guess even the dimmest, dumbest dem economist like Krugman was bound to notice this sooner or later, so they figured they'd get in front of it.
Mark
Toilet paper rolls smaller, soup cans waaay smaller, etc.
What I don't understand is it's gotta cost to redesign and retool the machines that make the packages plus the machines that fill the packages.
Manufacturers and retailers are really being squeezed: FOMC Beige Book: The Margin Squeeze Is Everywhere
For the Pinglists.....
Recovery Summer 2!
Soros and BO campaigned on redistribution of wealth. What the ignorant fools that voted mugabe in office thought was the wealth would be given to them, not to Soros and other countries.
WHAT A CONFEDERACY OF FOOLS: The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to an electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.. The republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.
I just caught something on the radio. Someone was giving a presentation about the IPad, and making the point that the newer, better model would cost you about the same as the older model, and said “there’s no price inflation”.
A voice in the crowd shouted out:
“I can’t eat my IPad!”
Notice that the smart marketers are doing the opposite. JIF peanut butter advertises on their label that they haven’t reduced the size. Saw that on a brand of OJ and some other products, too.
I appreciate not being treated like I am stupid.
NY Fed to Americans: Let them eat iPads.
As long as you don’t have to heat your home, eat or go anywhere everythings hunky dory.
can you say “misery index”?
We are living through 1978 all over again, I swear...
Obama doesn’t like the oil or auto industry, so by keeping gas prices high, people will drive less and support his Mass Transportation boondoggles.
The First Lady doesn’t want us to control what we eat, so by keeping food prices high, we may eat less, and put many food corporations out of business or under Government control.
The Law of Intended Consequences.
That's a relief. The effects of increased energy prices NEVER creep into other sectors of the economy.
Pretty sad our government has moved so far away from the people.
Lack of transparency, manipulating data for political advantage, favoring foreign interest over that of the American people, national security threat via financial mismanagement.
Republican or Democrat, we continue to march toward a socialist model.
Our government is too big, too expensive, too intrusive.
PING!
>This was Michelle’s plan all along. She has her own sources.
Well then, it’s a good thing the White House’s garden-soil has lead in it, no?
Let them eat iPads.
