Bill Clinton: Drilling delays 'ridiculous' By: Darren Goode March 11, 2011 04:55 PM EST

Former President Bill Clinton said Friday that delays in offshore oil and gas drilling permits are “ridiculous” at a time when the economy is still rebuilding, according to attendees at the IHS CERAWeek conference.

Clinton spoke on a panel with former President George W. Bush that was closed to the media. Video of their moderated talk with IHS CERA Chairman Daniel Yergin was also prohibited.

But according to multiple people in the room, Clinton, surprisingly, agreed with Bush on many oil and gas issues, including criticism of delays in permitting offshore since last year’s Gulf of Mexico spill.

“Bush said all the things you’d expect him to say” on oil and gas issues, said Jim Noe, senior vice president at Hercules Offshore and executive director of the pro-drilling Shallow Water Energy Security Coalition. But Clinton added, “You’d be surprised to know that I agree with all that,” according to Noe and others in the room.

Clinton said there are “ridiculous delays in permitting when our economy doesn’t need it,” according to Noe and others.

“That was the most surprising thing they said,” Noe said.

The two former presidents both generally agreed on the need to get offshore drilling workers back on the job.

Unless they’re going to spend their own money(which we all know that won’t happen)to start, I don’t see it.
As far I know she has no money in her campaign accounts.
In fact I bet she owes money to the account.
Off to see if she has any money left....

Though I disagreed with many policy issues, I have always felt that George W. Bush was a stand-up guy who walked the walk. That said, I never understood why he sat idly by as the lame stream media ridiculed and belittled him day after day. I respect that, following his presidency, he has chosen not to comment on the current president. All that leads me to ask...

Why is it, every time I see his name now, he is with Bill Clinton??? I never understood Bush 41 doing the same (mentoring the prodigal son or some such silliness), but Bush 43 certainly does not need this guy. Sheesh....

Obam told us himself this afternoon that he wasn’t responsible for limiting drilling in the US!

And he's "working harder than he's ever worked" to fix the problem, I bet.

What’s he talking about? Everyone knows that we have only about 1/2 of one percent of the world’s oil. Won’t shave a dime off the price of gas. And it will take years for the oil to get to market anyway. He’s just running interference for the greedy oil companies and Halliburton.

Politicians and their appointees collect more on every gallon of gasoline we buy than the companies who drilled, refined and transport it.

Who's screwing whom?

I can answer the question as to why GWB didn’t defend himself. Tokoyo Rove advised him not to.

I also think that former presidents, although from different parties, belong to a very small, select group of people. We only have 5 living presidents at this point in history. Carter, GHWB, Clinton, GWB and zero.

Dick Morris said it all the time. Clinton used to be a governor. We didn’t agree on a lot of things, but he had a lot of executive experience and knew how to run things. So did Bush.

Not only is Obama just paper pusher, he is a young, inexperienced one to boot. It is unbelievable people put this fool in power.

He has not idea how to run anything, and is trying to apply all this theoretical socialist stuff out of his books. It would be hysterically funny if he wasn’t destroying people’s lives.

Bill Clinton is a scumbag with blood on his hands for Waco, but he was someone who obsessed over the polls, caring greatly what the American people thought - even about his vacation choices. Yes, it was for ulterior motives, but I would take those days over these.

He tried to shape public opinion over the Oklahoma City bombing, for sure, but for the most part he believed in listening to the heartbeat of America.
