I've only been back home a couple hours now, mate, so I've got a lot of catching up to do. Seismic sea waves tend to be like the ripples that you see when dropping a stone in a pond, circular and expanding until they hit somewhere and expend some part of their energy. The rest of the wave keeps going....and in the open ocean they can travel thousands of miles undiminished.
Kona sustained damage as did Crescent City in California but Hilo didn't. Go figure.
