I was talking about a 20 day window...last night about 3 hours before the quake - spoke with hubby about this. Almost fell out of my chair at breakfast when I saw the news.
The damage on certain areas of the coast with points extending out into the pacific sufferd a lot of damage in the harbors. A lot of damaged boats and docks. It could have been a LOT worse.
I have been watching the news pretty closely. Pray for Japan. The job they have ahead of them is massive. Simply monstrously massive.

Wish I could be more precise. There was this guy years ago who posted on USENET who linked the proximity of the moon to earthquakes (gravitational pull). The Hayward Fault in the east SF Bay Area is like an old rubber band ready to snap. We haven't had a good release on that fault since a substantial quake in 1868. I hear about rumblings around the Pacific Rim of Fire (which we also inhabit) in Japan and other Pacific islands, and I am concerned.
Perhaps I'm wrong. But I can't help but think about this. I was here for Loma Prieta, and that was really something. There could be something bigger. Too bad we can't predict earthquakes like we can predict hurricanes.
After the Loma Prieta, the “scientists” (quotes intentional) perdicted with something like 90% certainty a Big One before 2000 on the Hayward Fault.
My intuition and sensitivity phenotype have me jumping out of my skin...watch the animal life around you...this is just the beginning. I really *feel* the pull on this.
