Kurihara is much farther in land than Sendai. I’m not sure why they would have gotten hit so hard.

God bless them .. sounds like something we’re now
lacking: a truly civil society.

Lord, hold those at risk in Your protection.

try to be at least a few miles in.

I’m in Long Beach, about 3 miles from the coast. But we’re elevated.

Still, if I think there may be trouble I’ll head up to Lakewood.

They’re showing a 4.5 and a 3.3 pretty much back-to-back there.
NOT what y’all need right now!
Prayers up for y’all.

Good. Australia’s been through quite enough, even though our press didn’t bother to cover those horrific floods.

That oil refinery is about 6 miles from me :/

I am ok, and on high ground.

Electricity flickered a few times, but still on...

Is that a double entendre? Bush’s “fault” (think earthquake).

it’s not just the coast, it’s the bays and rivers, too

Just watched tonight what a 30 foot wave does to a town 2 miles upriver from the coast

Thanks - I’m trying to find a topographic map, but haven’t had much luck. I’m near Petaluma, so trying to figure out the level of possible danger.

This seems very a very fluid situation so I would assume the worst and pray for the best. I do hope this will not affect Australia but....

I just looked at the terrain map and it appears that Kurihara was in a low lying area. There are a number of towns closer to the ocean, also in low areas, that I have to assume were hit as well.

I’m in Ewa, about 32 feet. I’m in a yellow zone, should be fine.

The tsunami warning center is located in Ewa Beach at about 10 feet above sea level. Talk about government planning!
