Doesn’t have to be close to water, I’ve watched it travel inland miles upon miles, tearing up everything in it’s path. homes, cars, boats, a big, dark, roiling, on fire thing I can’t even put into words.
I’ve never seen anything like it.
This is truly HUGH!!! My menfolk just went out for supplies. I’m sure we’re fine - we’re way up in the hills. But an 8.9 is horrific. There’s nothing between Japan and Hawaii. Well, my son said “Wake Island” but that was just silliness. The local news is covering this nonstop. Major Prayers for those poor people in Japan!!!!!

I saw the ones of Indonesia, yes bodies in the water and media showed a swath of water.........nothing on the scale of this thing though.

A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF LONG OCEAN WAVES. EACH INDIVIDUAL WAVE
CREST CAN LAST 5 TO 15 MINUTES OR MORE AND EXTENSIVELY FLOOD
COASTAL AREAS. THE DANGER CAN CONTINUE FOR MANY HOURS AFTER THE
INITIAL WAVE AS SUBSEQUENT WAVES ARRIVE. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS
CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST.
TSUNAMI WAVES EFFICIENTLY WRAP AROUND ISLANDS. ALL SHORES ARE AT
RISK NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION THEY FACE. THE TROUGH OF A TSUNAMI
