Atf whistleblowers have been talking about since the Border Patrol agent was killed in December and the gun traced back to ATF.

Was it getting any coverage in the MSM or just gun forums on the Internet? The first link is a blog that states even the State Department signed on to Gunwalker. The second is AP story on cbsnews.com. The last gives an indication that it's being covered nightly on CBS Evening News by their investigative reporter, Sharyl Attkisson. They're dated March 7 & 8.

The blame shifting & leaping to illogical exculpatory conclusions begins, but Obama's Gunwalker

Mexican legislators demand US talks on gun scandal

Documents point to ATF "gun running" since 2008

For the benefit of others, I'll repeat your comment# 3 of this thread.

This story has been going on for a couple of months and now they decide to get involved?

Of all organization, why should the NRA go off half cocked?

The blogs were carrying the load for awhile, David Codrea of the Gun Rights Examiner and Mike Vanderbough of the Sipsey Street Irregulars were the ONLY ones pushing this story... Finally the NRA jumps into the fray, but only after the story got wide coverage in the “Media”.

Although this story has been tearing up the web for months, the NRA sat on the side lines, for what reason who knows, but at least they finally took notice... Welcome to the party NRA, better late than never.
