ORANGE The coffee war has gone from grande to venti.
The same day news surfaced that a dozen Town Hall custodial and clerical staff won a grievance against the town, requiring taxpayers to provide free coffee and milk and compelling town officials to reinstate dress-down Fridays, First Selectman James Zeoli said there is a chance he could appear later this week on conservative Fox News host Sean Hannitys nightly television show.
Several television trucks also took up residence at Town Hall Wednesday.
Republican State Chairman Christopher Healy also issued his own take on the situation Wednesday, criticizing the workers and saying its preposterous that the town was forced to spend $10,000 fighting the unions grievance.
Connecticuts government continues to be the enemy of common sense, Healy said in a statement. When, if ever, will those we pay to protect the interest of our state continue to work for the special interests out to destroy us?
Zeoli said he was contacted by a local Fox News affiliate about Hannitys show, but there are no concrete plans.
And the battle over the dress-down day is not completely over, Zeoli said.
Zeoli said the town has no recourse on the coffee and has provided a new coffee pot, ground coffee and free milk for the dozen union members. But while the Connecticut State Board of Labor Relations ordered the town to provide free coffee and milk for the union and ordered the town to reinstate dress-down Fridays, Zeoli said he is not backing down on the attire issue.

Unions have really gone to he!! in a hand basket.....
What - not fight for free donuts! /sarc
Buy you own coffee.
Unions are nothing but a bunch of MOOCHERS.
Dress down Fridays - huh? They are janitors, dress down to what?
Were I a taxpayer in this town I'd make some time every day to visit these 'workers' and tell them to their faces what a bunch of leeches they are.
If I owned a business in town I'd refuse to service any of them and I'd organize all my like minded business owner friends to do the same. No more dry cleaning, service at restaraunts, car repair, no nothing.

It is not uncommon for a for profit business to provide free coffee for the employees.
“Free coffee at town hall, get it while it’s hot taxpayers”
Townhall is a public building so the public is surely invited for free coffee - the unions workers will need to be on their toes to make sure that pot is fresh......;)
I have worked many places where coffee/tea/hot chocolate was available for us to consume.
However——I remember that most of us contributed to the coffers for such.
Many didn’t use anything & they didn’t contribute.
I don’t drink coffee, but I like hot chocolate. I always put $$ into the pot.
I didn’t ever expect my employer to provide such. I was pleased enough that we were allowed to have it during the day.
Expecting the taxpayers to pay for their drinking habits is just plain wrong.
I actually thought this was the Onion or Scrappleface for a moment.
This story should go national. Hundreds of thousands of Americans file first time unemployment claims every week, gas is rising toward $4/gallon, inflation is rampant...
...and a union is filing grievances to get taxpayers to provide “its people” free coffee and milk and the right to wear jeans on Friday.
It’s a perk...
They keep pushing it, someday something is going to break.
Free coffee? Won’t that keep them awake on the job?
Now that they’ve established that the taxpayers can be forced to pay for their perks I guess the next logical demand is that the taxpayers pay for Friday hooker parties ala Charlie Sheen.
Too bad those Civet coffee beans are so expensive. Let them drink that for a while, then tell them where the beans had to “travel” to get to their pot.
LOL That would almost be worth the expense! But then they would file a grievance for “emotional harm” or something like that...
Maybe just put the beans in a litter box for a week. Then grind them up,,,,,,,Gotta have about the same effect as passing through a Civet!
Maybe it would be cheaper if we passed them through pigs?
Takes me back to my youth, where, when quitting a not particularly good job, I gave the following answers in my “exit interview” when asked to name the 3 best things about working for this company.
1) Employee Incentive Bonus Program
(*when the bonuses are actually paid)
2) Employee Stock Option Program
(*when the stock is actually worth somthing)
3) Free Coffee in Lounge
Of course, at the time I was kidding...
I describe the free coffee at one place I worked as the company benefit. Singular.
