Protests against Gov. Scott Walker's budget and the battle for access to the Capitol took a tense turn last night when GOP Sen. Glenn Grothman was locked out of the building and was eventually surrounded by hundreds of angry protesters, according to the Cap Times.
The paper reports that State Rep. Brett Hulsey, a Democrat from Madison, intervened and tried to calm the crowd. The incident lasted 5 to 10 minutes and firefighters eventually cleared a path for Grothman and Hulsey to make their way to a side entrance to the building.
"This guy and I disagree on everything, but we're friends," the Cap Times quotes Hulsey as telling the demonstrators. "This is a peaceful protest. You need to back away."
Grothman downplayed the situation and told the paper he didn't think he was ever in any real danger.
"I really think if I had had to, I could have walked through the crowd and it would have been okay," he told the Cap Times. "They're loud, they'll give you the finger, and they yell at you, but I really think deep down inside they're just mostly college kids having fun, just like they're having fun sleeping with their girfriends on air mattresses. That's the guts of that crowd."
Here's the coverage from the Cap Times , a YouTube video (Warning: vulgar language) of the incident and some raw video from Madison.com
Tuesday evening, Grothman appears on MSNBC and describes the protesters as "a bunch of slobs taking up the building."
Funny I don't recall the Tea Party behaving this way, and yet the media immediately tried to blame them for Rep Giffords shooting. Disgusting

I wonder if they realize that that was a huge insult. :)
Reminds me of something a guy standing next to me said in one of the “pre-war anti-war” marches in downtown Seattle before Gulf war II, regarding the crowd demographic:
“Hmmm. Students and gray ponytails.”
The senator gets locked out but the protesters are allowed in?
A little preview of the coming 2012 presidential campaign! !!
Clearly it will soon only take the right spark in the right place and things will blow-up and quickly turn into CW 2.
Yeah, I caught that insult too. A variation of the “shoo now, children, and let the adults get back to work” slam.
It’s time to stop being civil to leftnuts.
Next time, try bringing a giant gavel with you.

This video is hard to watch ('cause Glenn is a good Senator and a stand up guy). And, the language is atrocius. But watching it gives you a sense of what our Republican Legislators are enduring, as well as the rest of the state. The Capitol and Madison police should have to answer for this.

I don’t understand why they are allowed to make a racket inside the building. You can’t do that when the US congress is in session. They should not be allowed to intimidate the representatives and interrupt proceedings. This is nuts.

Stop up the sewers leading out of the Capital building and grounds. Warn them not to light any incense, candles or cigarettes. Shut off the ventilation.
They will come out just like the Robber Barons of Chile were ousted from their downtown mansions by Allende thugs. Leftists invented the tactic.
