Those were the good ole days, when it meant something to be a Constitutional Republic.I would say we could learn a lot from our Southern ancestors about standing up to FedGov™.

Just out of curiosity, did they ever rescind that?

My understanding is that Texas specifically reserved the right to secede when they joined the Union.

But "Honest" Abe had a different idea.

I’m here in Texas and you would not believe how the people are celibrTing celebrating the occasion. It has been crazy all day long.

You would think it was New Year’s Day in Bejing or Mardi Gras Day in Mecca.

You don’t deserve to be there.

Yes, it is the day that traitors in Texas turned against their Governor, the man who gave them their independence and led them into the federal union, the hero patriot Sam Houston.

As Houston said, as the traitors drove him from office, for not taking their so-called oath:
“Fellow-Citizens, in the name of your rights and liberties, which I believe have been trampled upon, I refuse to take this oath. In the name of the nationality of Texas, which has been betrayed by the Convention, I refuse to take this oath. In the name of the Constitution of Texas, I refuse to take this oath. In the name of my own conscience and manhood, which this Convention would degrade by dragging me before it, to pander to the malice of my enemies, I refuse to take this oath. I deny the power of this Convention to speak for Texas....I protest....against all the acts and doings of this convention and I declare them null and void.[14]” — Wiki

I pray history repeats itself. Of course, we’ll have to get a conservative governor first.

Yeah, because slavery was cool. I like the part where they took slave families and sold the mother here, the father there, the kids over there.

Oh, and the beatings.

And the auctions.

Well he WAS getting up in the years. . .

Senility does strike our heroes, even great ones like Old Sam.

Actually, you have the events backwards. Texas seceded from the union first, but did not join the CSA until later on. Texas passed the resolution to secede from the union on February 1, 1861, and thus reverted back to its status as the independent Republic of Texas that it had prior to joining the United States.

The governor of Texas at the time, Sam Houston, didn't want to give up Texas' sovereignty and join the Confederate States of America, so he refused to take an oath to support the CSA. This little fact didn't sit well with the pro-slavery advocates, so rather than adhere to "states rights", they removed the lawfully elected Governor by force and installed the pro-slavery Lt. Governor, who would then force Texas to join the CSA and give up its independent status during the war.

Texas joined the Confederate States of America on March 2, 1861, over a full month AFTER they had seceded from the United States.

Facts can be unpleasant things.

‘Senility does strike our heroes, even great ones like Old Sam.’

Houston knew and remembered the heroes of the Alamo and Goliad who died to make Texas American. Are you one of those who think that they fought because Mexico was abolishing slavery?
