Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin, a Democrat with a unified legislature, is rejecting calls from within his party to raise taxes. And he has a Sarah Palin joke to explain why.
My problem is, on the eastern side of me, Ive got the state of New Hampshire, he told POLITICO. Sarah Palin said that she could do foreign policy because she could see Russia from her house. Well, Im the first governor in 40 years that can see New Hampshire from my house. So I can do tax policy. And I can tell you, weve got no more capacity. Theyre killing us.
New Hampshire has no sales tax and no income tax.
Vermont has a 6 percent sales tax and, at the top tier, a 9 percent income tax. The result has been a long period of stagnation for the Green Mountain State.
Weve already got a progressive income tax in Vermont, and we cant get more progressive because well lose the few payers that we have, Shumlin said in between sessions at the National Governors Association meeting. We dont have any more tax capacity.

Adding credence to a Palin cutism?
cute-ism
Even a Democrat is forced to reluctantly admit the wisdom of a “Palinism.”
LIE.
Tina Fey said that on SNL.
LIE.
These people have nastiness in their soul.
They truly hate her.
Vermont is green for a reason.
The Obamacrats see Sarah as a secret role model to them and they try their very best to emulate in hopes of having some semblance of success with the voters that matter.
As a well-informed and intelligent human, you are well aware that it was TINA FEY who said that she “could see Russia from her house” in a Saturday Night Live skit, right?
I mean, I can understand a DemocRat politician not being able to tell the difference between a comedy sketch on late-night television and the real world, but I thought FReepers had at least half the brains G_d gave them.
Thanks for shattering a personal illusion, (redacted)
And he apparently gets it that more taxes will not equal more revenue for his lovely state.
Now that is news.
Sounds like Shumlin got elected with a total of 4 votes.
Of course, Sarah Palin NEVER SAID that she could see Russia from her house. Never said it. Period. So once again, a scumbag Democrat is lying. (Surprise, surprise.) By the way, this is the first I ever heard of this little piece of mouse feces, Peter Shumlin. I'm betting he's a homosexual. Is he a homosexual?
Idiots have no idea that she spoke as Russia as a border neighbor. SNL actually made it funny. The sad part is Americans cannot tell the difference.
Just wait until the illegal immigrants discover the lily white Utopia of Vermont.
Then the Gov. will REALLY scream.
Tina Fey said what you're thinking, not Sarah Palin.
What Governor Palin said was that you could see Russia from Alaska -- which is absolutely true. And which Fey and her ilk are probably too ignorant to realize.
You knew that, didn't you?

Uhhhh?
I’m not sure I understand what you’re getting at.
I like Sarah, and have tremendous respect for her. I think she’s intelligent, but is also relaxed enough to speak endearingly. What I deem a cute-ism isn’t necessarily something meant to disparage her character or intellect.
>> You knew that, didn’t you?
I’ll be sure to quote next time so there’s no confusion.
Not at all.
This little weasel Shumlin is concerned only that Vermont will lose even more businesses (and taxpayers) to neighboring New Hampshire if he raises taxes. If you read the whole story he even stresses that he is "not anti-tax". He adds that he is totally in favor of Ubama's desire to end the Bush tax rates (ie., he wants taxes raised).
This piece of sh!+ Shumlin loves taxes just as much as the next scumbag rat, count on it.
