Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) is not closing the door to being considered for the vice presidential spot, despite only having served in Congress for less than three months.
Speculation over West was sparked Friday when former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), who is considering a presidential bid, said that a number of Florida GOP politicians would do well as vice president, including West.
When asked about Gingrich's comments by WPTV-TV, West asked, "He said that?"
"I have to pray about it and I have to clear it with my wife and two daughters," he added. "I never thought that seven years ago when I retired here I'd be a United States congressman, and that I'd be standing in front of your news camera. So we don't know what the future holds, but I'm always willing to serve my country."
West, 50, is one of two black Republicans elected to Congress in the 2010 midterm elections, which saw the GOP take control of the House with the backing of Tea Party activists. Florida has never had a candidate on a national ticket, according to WPTV.
To become vice president, West would need to be chosen by the Republican Party's presidential nominee after a thorough vetting process.
During his short time in Washington, West has garnered significant media attention for his staunchly conservative views on policy and his tough talk.
West, a decorated lieutenant colonel, served in the Iraq war but was the subject of an investigation into his behavior during an interrogation of an Iraqi police officer, and subsequently retired.
I’d support Allen West in a pico-second in whatever endeavor he engaged in.
Better than that, he is the embodiment of what an American Patriot is, period.
* runs to cast vote * I want to be first in line. :-)
Dang, you outran me! Palin/West 2012
I would be happier than a pig in slop!
Wow! What a ticket! Quite a team there, hard to beat!
Palin/West - same voters
Palin/Rand Paul - may strengthen the ticket more with Libertarians
Palin/Paul Ryan - may draw in the establishment
VP? I’d rather see him as Secretary of State!
Talk about heads exploding!
You bet. Wish we had many more like him in the party.
He was far more filled with platitudes and trite sayings that either Palin or West for a fact!!! Palin's experience in governing as a exective totally eclipses Truman's!!! And West's courageous military record is at least equal to Truman's!!!
The man has got talent and virtue. A powerful combination.
I believe he’d be an excellent SoS, he could shake the place up. :)
pico-second
Ditto!
This is my main concern: Even if Rep. Allen West does decide to become the VP pick, how can the GOP, then, make sure that the Congressional seat that he represents doesn’t return to the Democrats? His constituents might get too upset with having a great guy like Rep. Allen West leave so soon, and this seat stayed on the Democrats side for a long time, prior to Allen West winning it in ‘10!
A truly workable, winning combination. I sure hope....
A powerful, pro Liberty, pro American ticket!! Could you imaging the demo VP debating West? West will crush them. I believe the Marxist will find a way NOT to debate Sarah. She would crush Obama in any debate.

people might take exception to me saying this , but....
Only a Black Male is capable of defeating Barack Obama for the Presidency in 2012 .
None of these white boys can do it and the time for a lady is either over, or not here yet . The Dems/Progs/Libs will break out all the stop in attacking any and all candidates against their boy . All race cards will be played vigorously . Only another black man ; an actual native born American black man , who descends from natural born black parentage can beat Obama . This is Allen West , and not some pizza franchise starter or talkshow host.
America is at war . America’s Armed Forces need to be led by a warrior , not by gaggles of liberal lawyers .
They deserve it . It’s the least we can do for them , who have given us so much . Give them President Allen West .
