MEXICO CITY Mexican soldiers arrested six men Wednesday who they say carried out last weeks fatal ambush of U.S. special agent Jaime Zapata. Authorities said the suspects told them they believed Zapata and his partner Victor Avila who was wounded in the attack were members of a rival gang because of the vehicle they were driving. The suspects belong to a cell of the Zetas, a violent criminal gang headquartered in the cities bordering South Texas.
Officials identified the groups leader as Julian Zapata Espinoza, alias El Piolin, or Tweety Bird who they said directed a Zeta assassination cell in San Luis Potosi state, where Zapata was killed Feb. 15.
Military intelligence officers had been aware of the gangs activities in the state capital, also called San Luis Potosi, since last December, Defense Department spokesman Ricardo Trevilla said. Soldiers went looking for the gang in the wake of the U.S. agents killing....
U.S. and Mexican officials have vowed to work together to solve Zapatas murder, the first of a U.S. law enforcement officer working in Mexico since the 1985 torture slaying of Enrique Kiki Camarena Salazar. A joint task force has been created to work the case, with the U.S. team led by FBI agents....
Zapata, a 32-year-old ICE special agent, was fatally shot when at least eight armed men in two vehicles ran his official embassy car off the Pan American Highway about 500 miles south of Laredo. Avila was shot but survived. The suspects said this was due to a case of misunderstanding because the car they were driving was the type used by a rival band, Trevilla said.
The car had official diplomatic plates, and Zapata and Avila had identified themselves as diplomats to their assailants, he said...

Too bad Mexico doesn’t have the death penalty (at least the government doesn’t) so I would imagine these guys will need to be tortured for a very long period of time.
May God rain fire down on all of those gangs south of the boarder.
“story” is right. This is just a little dog-and-pony show, by the Mexicans, to placate us.
“Say you thought he was a rival Cartel guy.. ya, the stupid gringos will believe that.... We have some open positions
over in special operations... you interested?.... It would be better not to turn in a notice to your current employer”
Ping!
If you want on, or off this S. Texas/Mexico ping list, please FReepMail me.
They sure do round up suspects quick when a LEO is invloved. Funny how that is never the case with civilians. IE Falcon Lake Murder, murder of Missionary on her way back to Texas with husband, etc....
Ping!
I think they finally arrested someone in the Lake Falcon murder.
Really? I didn’t hear that. Interesting.
My bad. They identified who was responsible but there hasn’t been an arrest, that I can determine.
Thanks for the heads up. The Mexican story sounds somewhat fishy, but at least it is a response. The US should pull our people completely out of this country, invitng their LEOs to participate in “joint meetings” North of the border.
Thank you for the update and ping SwinneySwitch.
Too bad. I was hoping they had.
I don’t believe one word coming from the government, on either side of the border. Sad state of affairs when we stoop to the third world level of “truth” and “faith” in government.
Correctamundo. They know who these guys are because they get paid to look the other way.
But when a US official is involved, they force the cartel bosses to throw a few lower level guys to the dogs, giving the US a bone to keep from having another border slowdown like happened after Kiki Camarena was killed.
