U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) berated the White House on Wednesday for failing to urge expansion of the H-1B program.
Hatch, the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Finance, raised his concern at a committee hearing on President Obama's proposed 2012 federal budget. U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was its sole witness.
One of the things that would "help our country a great deal is to expand the H-1B and allow these Ph.D.s who are educated here who want to stay here, who are brilliant, who can help us in the high-tech world and other worlds, to stay here," Hatch told Geithner.
"It's ridiculous that the administration doesn't weigh in on [H-1B], and I know why they don't -- but it's ridiculous not to," Hatch said, "And we've now created real competitors in India and China, just to mention two places, but others as well. "

Are we having a contest over which nation can un-employ the greatest number of its citizens? If so, Orrin, thanks to you and your frequent duet partner Ted Kennedy, this country's leading the pack!
USA! USA! USA!
Hatch needs to be a retired RINO.
FU Orrin Hatch.
All those H1Bs do is train our competition.
We have smart people here we can employ.
These are the same jackasses that told us with a straight face that sending our high-tech jobs over to foreign countries would create more high-tech jobs here, though they never really explained how.
Now with the U6 unemployment approaching 20%, these same jackasses want to vaporize more high-paying, high-tech jobs in America by giving them to non-citizens.
I wish each and every RINO a very early retirement, whether they want it or not.
Hey Orrin, let’s put Americans to work first.
Hatch is a stupid bastard, for years the pos politicians have said we bring these people here and education them so they can return home and help their fellow country men. If it is to bring them here to drive down the americans salaries mr hatch, you a hole, are in the wrong party.
I swear if the GOP allows the number of H1B’s to rise I will not vote for them for at least a decade!
They steal a lot of secrets as well.
Ne zot, Orrin, that’s so 20th century. Get up to date or retire, please.
When he H1B program has quotas for lawyers and journalists, on that day, it will end.
H1B programs are destroying our graduate schools. By increasing supply (labor), they decrease costs (wage). Econ 101.
The net effect of depressing wages is that fewer and fewer US students take the hard science classes.
Dear Utah... please retire this son of a female dog. Perhaps he can become the equivalent of a senator in China or India and shill for those people over there.
Wait for the Free Trade fascists to chime in and “tell us its raining”.
Every June a new batch of USA college grads cant find a job......
To bring that home to him, there needs to be a teaparty rally in his district choosing candidates to primary him by the middle of May. He or any of his staff that show up need to be politely, firmly, and unceasingly asked to leave until they are gone.
No more RINOs, no more discussion.
So I guess our unemployment is around 4 percent and we don’t need to worry about Americans who can’t find jobs....

H-1B is predicated on a shortage of American workers. I don't see that as the case now. So stuff it, Hatch. And expect to be primaried next time around.
