In a major shift in US policy toward Israel, Colum Lynch reports that the U.S. was poised to support a Security Council statement denouncing Israel's settlement construction.
The substance of the resolution is nothing this Administration hasn't said before, but the decision to give legitimacy to a forum Israel views as hopelessly biased is both an olive branch to Arab leaders and a dramatic breach with an ally. It follows the real collapse of the relationship between Obama and Netanyahu, whom the White House views as hopelessly intransigent, and will provoke a real confrontation with pro-Israel American politicians of both parties.
UPDATE: The Administration is negotiating over a statement, not a resolution -- a weaker measure, but still a real breach. But Lynch adds on Twitter that Palestinian leaders have rejected the statement offer, and are proceeding with a resolution, which the White House has said it would veto.
UPDATE: Rep. Anthony Weiner, a New York Democrat, signals that pro-Israel Democrats aren't going to be on board with this:

Obama needs to be impeached, tried for treason and brought to justice by a jury of military families who have lost loved ones due to Obama’s insane rules of engagement.

To Obama that means a Jew who refuses to die quietly.
I have no idea, given that I am not Jewish, why this latest betrayal of the only legitimate democracy in the middle east has completley put me over the edge, but I’m over it.
Obama is clearly on the side of evil.
I remember when just the Arabs hated us, now the Arabs and the Israelis hate us. How is this progress.
I guess you could say the president has “united the region” in hatred of the U.S..
Note that all nations (all world leaders) attack Israel, which implies a change of policy from the USA, or the absence of the USA! Bear in mind that the nations will be under the World Government and will be vehemently anti-Christian and anti-Jewish. The principal features of this battle are:
* the location is Har-Magedon (Armageddon), a reference to the ancient city of Megiddo built on a hill and located in northern Israel
* the city of Jeruaslem is captured
* God Himself fights against the world’s armies
* the Israeli’s (the ‘tribe of Judah’) also fight
* the attacking armies suffer a ‘flesh-rotting’ plague and are defeated
* the end time world ruler is captured
