UNLV president’s somber warning on budget cuts moves faculty to tears

Although I can’t find a UNLV budget total to save my life, reports are that the cuts are less than 10% of the total budget. I bet a 20% cut in salaries and benefits would solve their budget problems without necessitating layoffs. How often do you hear about government salaries decreasing?

Full-time tenured professors make $100,000 to $200,000 per year. They may teach 1-3 courses each requiring a couple hours per week of class time), have assistants, take every seventh year off with 1/2 pay, get tremendous benefits and usually get an extra 15-20 per cent of their salary placed in TIAA/CREF retirement funds. How ‘bout taking a pay cut, you pampered freaks? Join the real world...get out of the ivory tower where everyone kisses your butts.
