Obama Issues Government Shutdown Threat

Anatomy of a Government Shutdown

“Of course a shutdown is possible because that's what the Republicans are threatening us with on national TV, Meet the Press or one of those dandies or whatever the show was. The Republican leader was asked, and I'm paraphrasing, 'is there going to be a government shutdown?' and he wouldn't respond to the question. So, this isn't Schumer or Reid or Hoyer. Of course it's a possibility. That's what we're trying to avoid."

-- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid talking to reporters about House Speaker John Boehner

President Obama warned of stopped Social Security checks and issued a formal veto threat Tuesday to the Republican spending plan currently being debated in the House, setting the stage for a potential government shutdown next month.

My memory was that Clinton was able to make it ricochet on Gingrich.

Every Republican in Congress, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, should say, “this is Obama’s government shutdown”. Everytime they speak, Republicans should say that.

REPEAT! REPEAT! REPEAT!

This will be how Obama owns the deficit and government gridlock.

I have little faith in the Republicans in Congress.

Gigrich didn’t help himself...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_federal_government_shutdown_of_1995

The Republicans blamed Clinton for the shutdown, and Clinton blamed the Republicans. Public opinion favored the president; Clinton’s approval rating rose to the highest it had been since his election. The Republicans’ support was further diminished two days later when Gingrich made a widely-reported complaint about being snubbed by Clinton; Tom DeLay called it “the mistake of his [Gingrich’s] life”.[1]

DeLay writes in his book No Retreat, No Surrender:[3]

“He told a room full of reporters that he forced the shutdown because Clinton had rudely made him and Bob Dole sit at the back of Air Force One... Newt had been careless to say such a thing, and now the whole moral tone of the shutdown had been lost. What had been a noble battle for fiscal sanity began to look like the tirade of a spoiled child. The revolution, I can tell you, was never the same.”

Gingrich’s complaint gave rise to the perception of his behaving in a petty egotistical manner, and Clinton defended the seating arrangement as a courtesy to Gingrich, the back of the plane being closer to his pickup car.[1] Later, the polls suggested that the event badly damaged Gingrich politically.[4]

The only ones talking about a gubment shutdown are the dems and Bowbama. They think ‘95 will be repeated. But, the mood of the country right now, will stick it to ‘em in ‘12! No one forgot the last two years in the mid-terms. It will be a repeat, and quite possibly much worse, for the dems and Bowbama in ‘12 than it was in November.

Given expenditures of 150 percent of revenue?

You’d be making 3 trillion a year, and in 75 weeks would have paid back everything that Obama has spent.

Obama’s gonna stop the social security checks?

It’s gonna be ugly out on the streets. I’ll be out there with my walker.
