(in the interest of "open and transparent gov") Salaries For City Employees Posted Online

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The latest information about the salaries and benefits of each San Jose city employee was posted online Friday in an effort to maintain transparency in the city's government.

The compensation information, which can be accessed at www.sanjoseca.gov/salary, is from 2010, the latest year available, according to city officials.

Former police Chief Robert Davis had the highest total compensation - more than $534,000 in salary and benefits - for the year, according to the report.

City Manager Debra Figone - who made more than $276,000 in 2010 - said the release of the information is an example of San Jose's commitment to an open and transparent government.

"Residents want to know where their tax dollars are going," Figone said in a statement. "Posting this information online proactively is part of the city of San Jose's commitment to making information available so the public can easily access it at their convenience."

Mayor Chuck Reed said that sick leave payouts cost the city $14 million dollars last year and said retirement benefits were also too generous.

"We're draining money from services, so we're cutting services to pay these high benefits and wages," Reed said. "I understand people are working hard, but we can't afford to pay money at this rate."

San Jose has about 5,900 full-time employees in 19 city departments.

IMO, even half that would be an outrage.

City of San José

2004-2005

2005-2006
$ 58.0 million
2006-2007
$ 34.9 million
2007-2008
$ 19.9 million
2008-2009
$ 29.6 million
2009-2010
$ 84.2 million
2010-2011
$ 118.5 million
2011-2012
$109.3 million*

Bring the growth in employee costs under control. In FY 2010-2011, six of the City’s employee unions agreed to Mayor Reed’s call for a 10% reduction in total compensation to save jobs and services. This followed a year of “true-zeroes” (no wage, step or merit increases) to help balance the 2009-2010 budget.

No kidding. I don’t mind paying these people a decent salary but, this is excessive, especially the retirements.

Arrest them all! Declare bankruptcy and “redistribute” the wealth they are getting from the public trough. What a bunch of unethical, immoral pigs.

That is the most disgusting taxpayer scam I have ever seen. Almost as perverted as the average sickos in SF.

Multiply that times every large city in America and it is enough to make you seriously ill.

These payouts are surely all ironclad contracts.

I really “like” their sick leave pay.

WOWZA!

Police sergeants making $250,000 a year. Unbelievable. And I'll bet they call it a high-risk job. They should try what I do by comparison. (shakes head)

I went through six pages before I broke $200 grand.

In addition, I'd like to see the salaries of Obama's mysterious czars published online.

I really thought that when the Pubbies took over, the annual stipends of these Masters of Deceit would be made public immediately.

What's holding things up?

Yes.

This house of cards is going to come crashing down, just like all our property values did after the fraud and corruption of giving bad loans poisoned our equity, crippled our housing market and trickled down into almost every aspect of our economy.

Local governments will collapse under the weight of these salaries and pensions and then we will be without services (inc. police).

Not a pretty thing.

Chuck Reed , the Democrat mayor that was the supposedly most conservative member of the city council for years, has crashed to earth.. and is feeling the heat.

They made this mess , and now are hard-pressed to fix it.

Some cuts have been made, more will come,, along with more parcel taxes and taxes on anything and everything they can get away with.
