Republicans: Halt taxpayer aid for Fannie, Freddie

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal taxpayers should stop propping up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and Congress will wean the country away from its reliance on the two huge but fiscally feeble housing finance companies, House Republicans said Wednesday.

Democrats conceded that changes are needed in Fannie and Freddie, which have swallowed $150 billion in federal aid since the government took them over in September 2008. But they cautioned that care must be taken to avoid jeopardizing the popular 30-year fixed rate mortgage and the access to the housing market that the two companies have helped provide to millions of moderate-income families.

Its so funny how these politicians are such junkies. Had Fannie and Freddie never existed, where would our housing prices be today? Would we have had a bubble? Maybe some limited, and i mean capped at a low dollar amount, program would have been okay. Maybe. This is exactly like every other ‘right’ or ‘program’ run by the government. Start it up with never an intention to put on the brakes because the opium of votes is too intoxicating for these career criminals.

Varney & Co. this morning noted that:

1) without Freddie and Fannie, we would not have had the housing bubble - note that Canada (without a Freddie or Fannie did NOT have a housing bubble); and

2) The GOP could have eliminated Freddie and Fannyie subsidies this year - cold turkey - but they didn’t — instead they said they would reduce the subsidies by 10% per year !!! and that commits the taxpayers to much more risk. In other words, business as usual

Obama is already knows as the President That Took 25% of My Home value.

The last thing the Republicans want is to be The Congress That Took The Remaining 75%.
