The female police chief of Guadalupe, Mexico, has not been seen or heard from since being abducted two days before Christmas.
Erika Gandara was a former radio dispatcher for the police department in the town of 9,000, which is just across the U.S. border, one mile from Fabens, Texas. The previous police chief was murdered and decapitated.
...Many of the houses in Guadalupe have been burned down by the cartels.

Perhaps it's time for the Mexican government to issue every honest citizen a semiautomatic rifle and 200 rounds of ammunition.
What other option does the Mexican government have??
These stories about all the violence on the border are nothing but big fat lies. Janet Incompetano said so!
Erika now sleeps with the fishes! :-(
mexican goverment? contradiction of words
What other option does the Mexican government have??
I am one who believes that the Mexican government is in cahoots with the drug cartels.
If they weren't they would send in their entire military to the border. They don't because they are getting bribed by the drug dealers who are now using medieval catapults to launch drugs over our fences.
I wouldn't doubt if Big Sis is getting some cash in an offshore bank account from the drug dealers. But that would never be investigated by anyone.
This is the end result of what happens when you ignore, even the smallest of, evils in your midst.
Better make it 500 rounds.
This won’t stop until there are summary hangings of perps in the streets.
The people of Mexico will soon welcome the first man who does this for them.
I wonder if they have considered Midnight Basketball?
At first I thought it was the one I read about earlier, but it isn’t. I wonder what happened to the one I read about.

If the Mexican government were not at least tacitly in cahoots they would close the border on their side. However, I think it’s a matter of money, but only in part the direct bribes from the cartels to the government.
It’s more a matter of basic economics; they can’t afford to close the border. Consider all the money sent from illegals to the US back to their families in Mexico, add to it all the American money circulated in the Mexican economy from the drug lords, and finally, all the money made selling products made in the machiadoras back in the USA.
If they keep the border open, they have to live with current chaotic situation. If they try to close the border, the economic collapse will be worse than chaos.
I truly hate to say this but this is one of those cases where you hope she is deceased instead of alive and being tortured/raped/beaten. Prayers for her and her family.
Yes. And one wonders how many more of these tragedies honest Mexicans will be able to take.
There will either have to be a huge national uprising, or Mexico will slide into a new Dark Ages.
Perhaps a Catholic bishop will step forward. Or perhaps it will be a military strongman. Otherwise, look out below.
My fear is that huge numbers of the drug cartels and even their military invade our country to take over towns. It may be one town and then the next. I wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t tried just to see what the U.S. would do. We could be seeing Wild West days soon. I hope not but that is what I fear.
What would be fun is to take a woman as brave as her, and position 10 or 20 Army Rangers to protect her...and have the Rangers waste anyone that got near. Sad for her, though - she stayed on her side of the border and really tried to help her people.
