A bill that ties drug testing to unemployment benefits is scheduled to go before an Indiana House committee Tuesday.
The legislation would require anyone trying to claim unemployments benefits to be tested for drugs first.
Those benefits would be denied if the person tests positive or refuses to be tested.

Why aren’t all recipients of government payments included? Taxpayers should not be paying the bills of anyone who chooses to buy drugs!
That would pretty much eliminate it in my hometown..That’s why it will never pass.
More rules for the “little people” that the legislators are not subject to...
So long as law makers dont have to drug test...then no one else should be forced to either...
LOL, I thought of that too, one of those unintended consequences you just know will be taken advantage of...
One issue you have to address is someone’s personal information being misused in some way. False positives? What about “other things” that someone could screen for?
not sure this is such a good idea.
first of all, what protection does one have against a false positive?
second, if they can test for one kind of drugs, how long before they start testing for other drugs? prescriptions?
third, if a clean test is required for unemployment benefits, how long before it becomes required for other federal benefits? state benefits?
how long before a clean test is required to cash a check? to vote? to go to the hospital?
Here in the small town of Martinsville there would be riots I bet...
Unemployment will not drop, but the population of Indiana will drop and the freeloaders will move to other states.
Make sure they have or get a ID while they’re at it.
These problems can be overcome with a little common sense, codeine type medication is usually the most common false positive, allow for a second check for that in a few weeks but allow them to file, cocaine, meth, or other less common false positives must be double checked also but denied if a repeat is found.
I think it’s a great idea myself.

Why are you pushing for citizens to be subject to laws that law makers are not subject to?
Isnt this the very definition of tyrrany?
The USSC has already rules twic that lawakers are not subject to drug testing as it is a violation o the 4th amendment...
So the 4th amendment only applies to lawmakers now?

government = common sense? what planet did you come from;-) this idea is a pandora’s box, that can really affect freedom.
Sounds great, let’s start with government employees first, then move on to elected officials and maybe if the program lives long enough, to benefits receivers. Maybe the TSA can come by and grope everyone too!
If this isn’t an unreasonable search, government unions will embrace it.

I'd love to see that happen, although I'd hate to be the poor capital security guard that has to monitor Bwarney Fwank's p#ss test.
Personally I'd rather see verifiable citizenship required for any benefits, including sending your kids to a public school.
I have heard that this recently passed in Kentucky.
I think it’s a great idea, but as another poster said, I’d like to see it for anyone who takes tax dollars.
